Plus, Hank was a dedicated body puncher, and it was a body attack which originally enabled Saddler to knock out Pep. That body attack of Armstrong's was a key difference between he and Pryor. (There is footage of The Hawk going downstairs on occasion, but I'm not aware of him winning any fights with body shots.)

Yes. A fair comparison point would perhaps be chavez v whittaker.

Imagine if chavez was bigger, hit harder, had better defence and was more accurate.

I had it 8-4 pea but julio had relative success that shows how a greater infighter might have greater success imo.

Please look into Kid Chocolate, he was such an amazing fighter. If you haven´t seen it yet watch Tony Canzoneri vs. Kid Chocolate I. Best fight I ever saw.

Yep, unbelievable display from both men.

Armstrong beat five HOFers while fighting under 135 pounds - and that's not counting the win over Ross, who he also beat while weighing within the LW limit. He also stopped two pretty good titleholders in Sarron (his only stoppage loss in 100-plus bouts) and Belloise, beat other good contenders like Tony Chavez, and unified a longtime fractured FW title, in addition to winning the LW title.

What did Marquez or even Arguello achieve under 135 that clearly outdoes that?

Perhaps, but that logic works both ways.

On the flipside, if he beats an ATG long-reigning WW champ (Ross) and the dynamite punching #1 WW contender (Garcia) while himself still weighing under 135, then that should count toward his LW legacy seeing as he was still literally a LW.

I don't see why this is. If he accomplishes great things at a higher weight while still weighing within the lower weight, why shouldn't that raise his stature at both weights? In other words, why does his opponent have to weigh within the LW limit in order for the win to demonstrate his quality as a LW?

Just less headache for me (personally) :good

I'm hoping he meant 'Chavez's unsurpassed in-fighting ability wasn't as formidable at 147 and by the time the Whitaker fight came around' ;-)

    This part killed me:

Yeah, I totally feel ya, brah. An even better comparison would be Corrales vs Mayweather if Corrales was stronger, hit harder, had infinitely better skills, a far better chin, better speed, better footwork, etc. Then he could probably make a real contest of things.

    Who wrote that? :rofl

because the fight is either a LW enhancer or a WW enhancer, he can't have the best of both world right?

was just trying to highlight that when great infighters fight great defensive fighters the infighter should be favoured IMO.

even when they are a level apart chavez (past prime) still fought competitive with (peak) whittaker.

Not sure why I used that example though, we can blame Stell if we want (Peroni was getting too expensive :-()

as I say, I'm content to have him very highly ranked at 126/147. In terms of H2H, nigh on unbeatable at 135.

His weight achievements, well, that just cements him in my top 3 P4P ATGs.....forever :D
