Donaire walked around at 150+ when he fought at 118. Shumenov walked around at 220+ when he fought at 175. For most fighters, their "walk around weight" when they aren't in training and haven't fought recently is more than 15 pounds above the limit they compete at. Fans really are ignorant to this reality.
You shouldn't really gain a lot of weight off season or between fights. Disciplined fighters who always stay in shape usually lasts longer in the game.
You shouldn't have an off season. Boxing is done indoors and is a year round sport. Get in the ring and take another fight. If you fight someone every month or two you'll never get fat. End of story.
And you'll also never peak and be as good as you can be. Weight control should happen in the kitchen.
I walk around 80 pounds off season. However, I am not a professional boxer so I am actually never on season.
Depends on your size. Carrying an extra 20 lbs when you're 5'4 is different to carrying 20 an extra 20 lbs when you're 6'2
Got a source for those figures? From what i heard Nonito walks around 140-145 and Shumenov around 200+ ish.
Margarito walked around 180 in between camps. Edwin Rodriguez has weighed over 200lbs between fights. People need to realise that most guys who fight at 147(or any weight for the matter), only weighs the contracted weight for about 5 minutes. Their fit, fighting weight would be more like 155-160. Then add 10lbs or so when they're not in training. So your average WW, probably weighs close to 170 between bouts and still look in good shape compared to the average person.
