He should fight Toney and not that old Russian bum. No question, Maskaev has a glass chin and poor defense and will get knocked out by Arreola. - Arreola vs Toney will be more marketable and fill the seats of the LA Staples Center. Good press conferences. - Toney is an ATG and has only lost to Peter. Toney arguably beat Peter in their first fight. - Arreola - Toney is a good stylistic matchup. Toney won't run so we will see some fireworks. Toney's granit chin and OK defense go along with that. - According to Goossen and Steve Kim Toney has maintained himself in shape. One last thing, Goossen has both under contracts but I guess he is too scared to let Arreola fight Toney because Toney could make this young fighter look bad. In a way, Toney deserves this fight because it was Toney who has taken Goossen back to the top. Shame on Goossen. Also an ATG always deserves one last shot. But I guess all of this won't matter, Arreola will probably fight that Russian in order to look good. I won't watch this farce.
Funny you ignored that Toney easily lost to Peter in the rematch in which Peter took Toney to school. <<<<<That shows Toney isn't the same fighter he once was. Toney is a done fighter so a victory over Toney won't do nothing for Arreola.
Russian bum... People said that before he Ko'd the Rock for the 2nd time. He lost to Peter, but he actually hurt him, more than what you could say about Toney. I'd would have picked Maskeav to beet Peters if he hadn't been in bed rest for 3 month prior and not been able to train, and then went to fight with bulging discs and it still was a competitive fight. If Maskeav is healthy again, I pick him to beat Arreola.
Toney in alot of peoples opinions beat Peter the first time thats a whole lot more then you can say about Maskaev.atschOh and Toney stunned people too. Oh wait I just read the rest of your post. Hi Oleg..........:hi:
Maybe, but on the other hand the Russian got knocked the fk out by Peter. Toney did much better in his 2 bouts with Peter. Also, Peter was at his absolute best shape in the second Toney bout.
Toney should retire, he's punchy already I'm sorry to say. I still haven't been able to sit through the Oquendo fight, after a few rounds I have to turn it off. Toney's reflexes are gone, he's getting hit with punches that wouldn't have found the mark a few years ago.
True, but when it was? He looked good against Peter in 2006, and on on top of that he was outboxed (!) by Peter in rematch. If you add to his more recent resume SD over Batchelder and questionable SD over past prime) Oquendo... I doubt it looks better than Maskaev's.
You may be right but I am not convinced. Toney looked reasonably good against Rahman II. Oquendo is awkard, Byrd and Holy looked equally or even worse against him. Holy went on to beat Valuaev. The Russian is much more finished than JT. Nobody wants to see Maskaev Arreola. At least Toney will put on a good show before the fight and sell some tickets.
Toney vs. Arreolla would be good match. But instead we get Oleg who will be knocked out in the second round.
I can not agree with this. A victory over an ATG, even one at the downside of his career - we surely all agree here, will always leave a significant mark on a fighters resume. Holmes will always be remembered for his victory over Ali as well as McBride will always remain the one who ended Tyson's career etc. Let's face it, Toney's status alone makes him a lot more marketable than ex-champs like Maskaev.
I disagreed. Former middleweight being able compete with former HW champs and top HW is amazing accomplishment.
The reason Arreola is fighting the Russian is pretty obvious. Arreola will knock him out and look good. We all know that won't be the case against Toney who has a granite chin. From a promoter's point of view this might be the logical step but the boxing fans deserve better. Well, I won't watch this farce.
Like I said Toney is rumored to be in good shape currently. In addition, their styles will make for an exciting matchup. But I guess you rather want to see a quick KO of Arreola vs Maskaev.
