You really like things uncomplicated, do you? The rating is indeed one criteria but not the only one. Check my post and you will find plenty of obvious reasons why Toney-Arreola makes more sense than Maskaev-Arreola. Fact is HBO wants an exciting matchup. Toney and Arreola's style guarantee that.In addition Toney is an ATG and will be more marketabel and as a consequence sell more tickets.Maskaev bring nothing to the table except being a quick KO victim. Most people here already agreed that Goossen is just scared that Arreola could look bad against the still slick and experienced Toney. Along with that I agree that perhaps the rating plays a minor role.Anyway, Toney's career is dead now.
Well Oleg is still ahead; Toney is ranked 7th by IBF but Oleg is rated #5; Toney is rated #6 by WBO Oleg is not but it's not a factor because the fight is going to be sanctioned by WBC not the other sanctioning bodies that's why I'm citing WBC rankings. :deal
Toney has been washed up for some time now. I can't understand why people still bring his name up as a legitimate contender. He lost his last fight with Oquendo and was fortunate to get the SD in his favour. He's old, overweight, and possibly senile. Time to put his career to rest. He would make a great commentator if anyone could understand what he's saying.
There is no question that Toney would have provided Arreola with a tougher test than the glass chinned Russian. Toney has a graint chin and can still handle himself on the insight where they will fight for most of the fight.Toney - Arreola is much more éarketable than Arrelola-Maskaev. Enough said.
Like I said you are being blinded by your bias . . . rating plays a minor role? Then **** the ratings . . . and turn boxing into a circus. :yep
If Toney is washed up, the Russian is completely dead. He got KOD by Peter against whom Toney handled himself much better. Toney is an ATG, nobody wants to see this uncharismatic Russian fight Arreola.
Victory over ATG Toney would be much bigger for Arreolla than Oleg. Also Oleg got his ranking in a court house he didnt actually fight anyone.
Maskaev looks dead and fights like it too, he should be collecting his pension. I don't want to see Arreola fight either of these guys, a win over them proves nothing. Toney spends 12 rounds doing his shoulder roll and occasional getting thumped in his head while talking smack, he has no offence to offer. oleg stumbles around like his feet are encased in concrete while he throws slow motion sweeping hooks as his comb-over wavers in the breeze. Neither have any business in a boxing ring anymore, I find it pathetic that the sanctioning bodies continue to rank these guys.
Like I said, check my post again and read first before posting. You seem to completely overrate those corrupt organisations. People want to see Arreola fight an ATG and not an uncharismatic boring Russian. HBO did not even televise Chagaev-Wlad, they preferreed Haye-Wlad even though Haye was not highly rated. Arreola will get a shot sooner orlater regardless of his rating because the division is so weak. Boxing fans want to see good fights. Arreola's and Toney's stye make for an exciting matchup, end of story.
Arreola is ranked n°1 by the WBC and I think that both pairings, against Maskaev or Toney, would easiliy qualify for a mandatory shot at VK. So where is the point in bringing up those senseless rankings?? Rankings don't mean **** nowadays, I don't know how long you have followed this sport but boxing IS pretty much a circus act - with lots of money involved though...
Arreola should fight James Toney, Arreola would beat Toney worse than Peter did in the second Toney-Peter fight. But it would probably go the distance and it'd test Arreola's stamina.
Arreola versus Toney - the battle of the blobs. What has HW boxing sunk to that this matchup is even worth talking about.
