Lets see how you guys break down tonight fight. For me was like this. The Good: Arreola took a knee at the right time, this showed ring intelligence. His power was there in abundance. Post fight he said that he needs to train more seriously and his will increase his roadwork and come back in better shape. he was patient in round one when walker was throwing 100 punches, hw's cannot sustain that kinda work rate. The guys is hilarious in his post fight interviews! The Bad: His defense was real sloppy tonight. His handspeed was terrible, I havent seen him this slow before..likely the weight. Guys with a good fast jab, fast hands and that can move will beat him and likely beat him badly. I see a guy like fast eddie chambers defeating him, even though chambers has no lateral movement.
I agree with your analysis of Arreola having good ring intelligence. I also like how calm he was under fire. He got hit with a good shot real early in the first round and yet didn't panic and start winging reckless shots. This is pretty rare in a heavyweight, especially American HW these days. I don't think that he will ever be "the man" at HW, and even if that were to happen, it would not be long lived. But, I could see Arreola being in the top five to ten mix of HW's for many years. I do disagree with the Eddie Chambers analysis. I personally think Chambers is VASTLY overrated and will lose anytime he fights a borderline top ten HW, which Arreola is approaching that status. Chambers just doesn't have the killer mentality to win against top level competition. I do think that if Arreola does train decently and come into the ring no heavier than 235-240 lbs, and also learns to move his freakin' head, then he could pose problems for anyone in the HW division right now.
He needs to do some serious roadwork and work on his speed. Great heart and power. I can see the Klits put a pounding on him
If he can get down to 230-235 I think that he could be pretty amazing... Its not like he has to lose Muscle to get to 235, he just needs to lose the flubb.. NO MAS BURRITOS
My Analysis : Good: Arreola can take a punch. Has power and both hands. Very smart fighter Bad: Defense is very sloppy, slow, not in good condition Overall: He shows he has a chin and that he has power in both hands. He knows how to survive when he's down and show true courage and strength. The only thing he knows to work on is his condition and defense but overall good performance.
This Fight Is Good.....it Showed He Got Off The Deck Too Win....most Fighters When Get Knocked Down Dont End Up Winning Fights He Did.....he Took Sum Heavy Leather And Came Back N Won....thats Impressive.
Accurate analysis of the Arreola. If he hasn't gotten his weight and conditioning under control or learned that discipline at this point in his career I don't think he ever will. I'm glad that we have a couple of very aggressive heavyweights in the division right now but if Chris wants to step up in class he's going to have to improve his defense and come to the ring in great shape...not moderate or good, but great shape. Both Klitschko's are athletes and Chris' power will not be enough in a bout with any A level fighter.
Arreola's defense really isn't that poor. It's just that his reflexes and speed are awful. He has great ring generalship, concussive power, a solid chin, and a calm demeanor inside the ring. Most importantly, he knows how to finish an opponent when he has him hurt. As for the negatives, Arreola is slow. And I mean... SLOW. He would throw a jab and get countered by a right hand, and there's absolutely no reason that should happen unless your opponent's hands are that much faster. Arreola actually reminds me of Kelly Pavlik. They're both relatively sluggish heavyweights who appear as if they would have trouble with slick boxers. Meanwhile, they have deceptive power in that although they don't appear to be throwing haymakers, their power punches are very devastating. Both fighters have incredibly heavy hands.
Arreola did NOT demonstrate ring intelligence, Smart fighters do not take that many flush shots. As of right now, Mccline, Peter, Povetkin and arguably Maskaev would either be favored or give an equal chance to win. That doesn't scream out "nex big thing," because those guys I mentioned are not even champs. I expect more exciting fights from Arreola in the future, however his no world beater, Wlad and Vitali would KO him in 4 rounds. Heck, I think Chambers would probably win a UD against him.
He did show a good chin and a unusual calm game in the fight eve after he got KDed.But any guy with a jab and good handspeed can take him out.He was very slow, remains to be seen if the weight had anything to do with it.
