I say this could be a fight of the year and we will find out once and for all which among them should get a shot at Wlad.

If Toney has enough left he should easily dominate Arreola, unless he doesn't have enough left in which case Arreola will dominate him. Either way one of them should be able to get Wlad.

Why haven't they fought already? Toney is fighting mandatory challengers for what? he has the IBO title or something?

Anyway here are Toney's last 3 fights and his weights

He looked fantastic against Greer. That Toney would beat the **** out of Arreola. He looked the worst I've ever seen him against Damon Reed and that Toney loses to the current Arreola. The winner of this fight could very well be the fighter that comes in shape.

They both have been fighting similar level competition as well. And are at a similar skill level. This is a fight I'd actually want to see because their styles match up perfectly as well.

Arreola would beat up Toney bad, it's not 2003 anymore.

Even if he gets his ass into shape, I don't think Toney has anything left. Arreola would just outwork him, which wouldn't be nice to watch considering Arreola is the type of fighter JT used to excel against.

Toney was finished when Peter OUTBOXED him in the rematch. Now he is 42, inactive and something like 50+ pounds over his optimal weight. At this stage, Arreola has good chance to stop him.

This fight would come 2-3 years too late. Even if Toney could get in halfway decent shape for him (below 230lbs), I can see an Arreola points win here, and I don't want to see that. Pre 2008 I'm certain that Toney would have schooled Arreolas ass - the difference in skill is just ridiculous.

Oh yeah, and Toney's been calling out Arreola back in 2008, when they both had the same promoter. And both men wanted the fight, but their promoter Dan Goossen and Arreolas manager Al Haymon didn't want it, as they knew Toney would kick their new rising star Arreolas butt. This is one of the reasons why Toney split with Goossen..

Oh, and as for Toney looking 'fantastic' against Greer - James did indeed look pretty good, but Greer is such a bum that this fight proved nothing at all. Greer is not even a top 100 US HW.

160 was Toney's optimal weight :D Oquendo where did you go man?
He must have been so pissed after that decision he decided to hang em up.

    Arreola would kick tonys ass
Too much workrate and althought Chris might miss than normal there is no way toney can 1. keep up any kind of offense 2. have enough to power to keep arreola honest. a few years ago this would have been a great fight now its pointless any of the top 10 handle toney no problem - its not about talent for toney is abut the fact hes old, slow and fat

the saddest thing that could happen to the HW division right now is matching Toney against WK

hmmmm let me ponder this out loud.

    wlad is free for now

    vitali v adamek
    povetkin v chagaev
    thompson v chambers
    helenius v lyakhovic

by my reckoning there is still boystov and dmitrenko available. both offer far better preperation for wlad than toney does. plus a winner in this match would be kleeping up with the other guys who, finally, are all beginning to fight each other.

Arreola has been fighting the same bum level competition as Toney. I don't see why you'd think Arreola has any advantage apart from being the younger guy.

If Toney gets in shape because of his style he has a lot left. He does have the sort of style that gets better with age, like a Hopkins. His only problem is he doesn't stay in the best shape.

I think Toney and Arreola need to fight each other. They've been ducking each other forever and they are even skill level.

If people don't think Toney has anything left the only way to find out is to match him up with someone he should have been able to beat a couple years ago and find out.

I would rather see Vitali v.s Toney simply because I think Vitali would take his time with the ****er and give him the Briggs treatment for all the insults over the years. Wladimir would knock Toney out within 6-7 rounds probably.

Either way it's a mismatch. But I remember Toney talking a lot of **** about Vitali in 2004-05. Hell Toney talks **** and insults pretty much everybody though.

"There will never be a white heavyweight champion. So ya'll just need to stop. Stop it." -James Toney after his DRAW with Rahman in 2006 :patsch

He came in at like 257 for his last fight, that's like 90 lbs past his prime fighting weight.
