Man does anyone remember watching this battle from 85? I don’t think I have rewatched it since then and this fight is greater than my memory recalled! if you have not watched this one check it out! Thanks to @McGrain for the upload and memory! This content is protected
Damn shame. Even the "good" fighters then had better skills than whats running around claiming greatness today.
They were part of a good bunch of super exciting lightweights that put on some good action fights in a very short space of time. "Choo Choo" Brown, "White Lightning" Brown, "Rockin Robin Blake etc.
I wanted to see that Ohio match between Harry and Mancini. I always thought Harry had the tools and style to give him a boxing lesson. but like lots of potential Mancini bouts, we never got it.
I taped it on Beta and watched it a few hours after it happened. I had a winter track meet that day. From what I remember, Alli was ahead most of the fight and had no problem landing on the less mobile Arroyo, but his lack of punching power and fatigue caught up with him in the late rounds. This and other tough fights in 84-85 took a lot out of Arroyo and he lost to Jimmy Paul later in the year and was shot by the end of 85. Alli remained world class for another 8 years.
Arroyo would have had a great shot at chopping down Mancini, and I would have favored him if it happened after Ray was brutalized by Bramble.
Such an exciting, competitive division then; Rosario, Ramirez, Bramble, Mancini, Arroyo, Jimmy Paul, a comebacking Boza-Edwards, Crawley......good stuff.
