I'll let you read the article, but comments like this just irk me. How can someone promoting the sport get away with saying things alienating the fans? Arums words: Dont say, most people. Say, most boxing people, Arum said. You have to understand that for a fight of this magnitude, the boxing people are a small percentage of the entire audience. For the Margarito fight, [which sold 1.15 million on pay-per-view], boxing people accounted for 150,000, maybe 200,000 buys. The rest is the general public. The boxing people said they were going to boycott Margarito, but I wasnt worried, because theyre boxing fans and I know theyre going to want to see the fight.
I hate to say it, but Arum speaks the truth. I still haven't met a single person is who is hardcore, or even a casual fan of boxing. And that's through 4 years of undergrad. It's a miracle to see even a single short article on boxing in ESPN or SI magazine. Bookstores across the nation are canceling their Ring Magazine contracts at a very rapid pace (Barnes & Noble and Borders). At ESPN.com, there isn't even a tab for boxing. It's under "Other Sports". Boxing is dying, I'm afraid. I doubt boxing will be around in 20 years.
Because as this forum shows, a lot of the people that pass for "boxing public" are f*cking idiots. If you don't believe that, go read some threads on here. Go find posters named MrWonderful and Aztecas and talk to them.
Arum is telling the truth. When you're mainstream like Pacquiao or Mayweather you don't belong to the boxing fanbase anymore instead you belong to the mainsteam public.
pac needs to tell the old man to **** down and shut up,pac needs to listen to roach and ariza and buboy, they will want whats best for his legacy, that is finishing the unfinshed biz with marquez,if still no floyd after that fight mosley if he beats berto and unify title vs mosley, who still has speed solid chin and sick power. then see if floyd will fight pac after those 2 fights. arum contradicting himself, clottey is a worse draw than either 3 opponents being lined up,and pac is the draw nowadays is he not?. people will be more intrguied about unfinished biz with marquez than him facing what they see is a past his best shane who last got beat by floyd and didnt look great vs mora. (although mora didnt fight, and it was shanes hardest style to go agiasnt and out of his natural weight)
