Yeah, you could tell he was struggling to keep his composure in the face of the pressure. I thought he did well to hang in there for a while but the later rounds were always going to be a struggle for him given that he couldn't keep AG consistently at bay with the jab, power, or movement.

He was tough but as you say he couldn't keep Ghoulamirian off of him and he couldn't hurt him either which also took it's toll on him mentally.

@KiwiMan @Drew101 @lewis gassed Excellent job guys, thank you, I really wanted to do this card, and I will later regardless.

From the moment they made this fight, I knew Goulamirian would win, never had a doubt, his willpower and grit is palpable similar to Gassiev and with Sanchez training him, he's a potential beast in the making. And I'm glad he did it by stoppage to put a cherry on top.

I kinda feel like a cuck for making a RBR and not posting on the fights.

Not 100% sure Usyk beat him twice but that's what it says on Usyk's partial record

So Usyk holds a win over the WBA regular champion too.

Bust? Sounds like he was doing pretty well for a while there. When two good fighters meet one has to lose, and that doesn't mean they were a bust.

It really was a quality fight though, Merhy is no fraud by any stretch of the imagination.

He just ran into Gassiev minor who was a bit too much for him in the end. It's hard to beat someone who can hurt you but you can't hurt or even keep off.

Goulamirian just looks like a mentally and physically strong guy and he has a presence and self-confidence about him. Merhy is talented but even when he was winning rounds he was spoiling - stepping in close and tying Goulamirian up or positioning himself in way that stifled any action up close. He was shoving/pushing Goulamirian off quite a lot too but the referee didn't warn him about it. He's a good fighter and he can come again for sure. Goulamirian isn't good enough to beat the top 3 or 4 guys in the division but he's tough and he's a handful for most.

I was planning a Callum Johnson thread like 2 years ago, I'm sure @Serge remembers, we talked about it, but after the Shihepo fight, he disappeared because of injures and it slipped my mind. And Goulamirian I've been meaning to do one on him for a little while as well. But after the Buglioni and Merhy fights were announced, I held off just in case.:D

Well dammit, they both get one now.:deal:
