Brilliant corner work by Abel Sanchez, I must say. Arsen goes out, relentlessly beats the living crap out of Merhy for 3 minutes, rocking him from one side of the ring to the other in dominant one sided fashion, hands never stop moving, the bell rings, heads to corner, and... Sanchez says at the end of almost every round, "What the hell are you doing, I want more volume, let your hands go, that was a close round." Genius! Merhy was basically a slobbering mess at the end of the 10th, still Sanchez says, I WANT MORE. ****ing sadist.

Merhy did good for the first 3 rounds, the 4th everything started slipping away from him and aside from one decent flurry in the 8th or 9th, it was all one way traffic. He really needs to work out a plan B against pressure fighters, or avoid them at all costs, he seems to have a good chin, which isn't necessarily a good thing in this division. Gassiev would literally beat him to death. He's got decent stamina, and heart, but skill wise, he's another Broner/Imam only in Cruiserweight form. He has fairly poor ring IQ, he doesn't know how to adjust, at all.

In this battle of the unbeaten prospects, Merhy took a loss, and last year Michael Hunter was similary bludgeoned by Usyk.

That would be an excellent bounce back match for both of them.

Come on, make Ryad Merhy vs. Michael Hunter next.:deal:

So in the post-WBSS landscape @ cruiser once the dust settles with Usyk & Gassiev moving up (and maybe Briedis?), we're looking at Goulamirian flirting with top 5, and Merhy somewhere in the 11-15 range?

Sounds about right to me, although I think Goulamirian's lack of punching power may be an issue with future opponents, its either that or Merhy has a ridiculously good chin.

    Somewhere in-between IMHO.

Merhy definitely has a good chin from what I saw, but Goulamirian doesn't have Gassiev-like power either.

Yeah, I lean that way too, most guys probably couldn't have stood up to the shots for more than 3 or 4 rounds when he started landing those bombs. He took them for almost 8 straight.
