Not a bad fight to give him some rounds, but I feel like it should have happened 2 years ago. Makhmudov isn't getting any younger and hasn't really progressed over the last 2 years. Putting him in with a durable guy to give him some rounds is always good, but I'd like to see him against a better mover. When it comes to durable guys I would have prefered Rudenko, but they probably went with a taller guy who he can't just bully into a corner and then uppercut into oblivion.
Getting unknown dangerous boxers into the ring with a known name is not really easy to pull off. Nobody really knows Mak so it's not like people are eager to fight him for peanuts, especially when you know he could very well lay you flat. These types of fighters are tricky to match.
