Big Mak needs to make a change, try to improve, find a new trainer who is used to working with eastern europeans
Right, I had a guy call me during the fight who used to box and he asked,,,,does big Mak remind you of some of the novice gold glovers we used to watch back in the 80's? I thought yeah he does, can't box a lick and has awful footwork. Not only hasn't he improved as a pro he may have regressed some since I first saw him. Unless he goes back to clubbing D level fighters out he might consider hanging it up
It shows how bad the likes of Teper, Rice, Peter, Wach, and Takam are or have been in recent years. Wins over this lot had people saying that he'd beat Fury.
I said from the very beginning that he had no skills. No jab and doesn't know how to set up his punches. All he had was power and the intimidation factor. You take away the intimidation factor and he's just an average fighter.
Make changes? He needs to learn to box first. His physical gift of being 6'6 frame and the natural ability to throw extremely hard is all he has. At his age it is what it is. He isn't going to be able to compete with the top contender.
Mak trains in Canada with Marc Ramsay - same trainer as Mbilli and Beterbiev and he used to train Lemieux and Pascal too. Nothing wrong with the trainer. This is all about the fighter and him being unteachable. The biggest issue for Mak is that there is a lack of quality sparring out there for a HW so he will just do drill and pad work which just creates muscle memory and mental stagnation because of the repetitiveness and familiar environment. He should have been based in America or stayed in Russia and gotten a push from there with an American promoter. People need to remember, your brain and body are very elastic and capable of learning new things very rapidly but only if you get yourself out of the same environment and comfort zone. Big Mak never did that and we are where we are as a result.....
Mark Ramsay us a great trainer, no doubt, true Big Mak may not improve, too late, but you either try something new or better hang them up. Many times getting out of your confort zone is just what you need. Little improvements here and there could make quite a diference. No world champion material, but he might have a productive career, just look at Chisora.
That's a horrible swelling he looks odd normally, with that swelling he looks like some alien from Star Trek lol.
Well this aged hilariously.... Reading back, some people mentioning him being slow and he needed to speed up like Joyce! Joyce is the slowest boxer I have ever seen, his punches get thrown in installments, hes that slow
