He will need to come up with a ring moniker or something to distinguish himself, though. He can't just keep getting introduced as "Luis Santana" - there already is a famous boxer (not super famous, but well-known enough) with that name, a Dominican who captured the 154lb green belt from Terry Norris by DQ, then defended it via DQ, and ultimately lost it back to Norris via KO. More of a footnote in the championship annals than anything, but still likely to be the fighter most associate with the name unless this kid does big things...and even then, it'd be a while.

 

He looked even chubbier in the locker room getting his wraps on earlier than at the weigh-in, somehow. Rehydration gains are usually a thing sub-HW.

 

Christian M'billi-Assomo Hallier vs. Ronaldo Alexander Landaeta Utrera, 10 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Round 1

M'billi-Assomo is ducking and covering the top of his head as Landaeta starts out aggressively, pumping out a jousting jab trotting inside and then looping in right hands toward M'billi-Assomo's cheekbone, mostly blocked. Landaeta eases off after coming forward most of the first minute under return fire as M'billi-Assomo loads up on body shots and single full-power rear-hand blasts up top, a mix of straights and uppercuts. M'billi-Assomo doing his best work on the body, lancing Landaeta's abdomen with some quick knifing jabs, and then scoring upstairs with the right when the guard drops. M'billi-Assomo has gotten Landaeta's respect in the middle minute as the man on the front-foot far more than vice-versa in the first. M'billi-Assomo starts barreling both fists into Landaeta's sides with hooking combos in the middle of the ring, until the ref orders a break for some reason, maybe a toe step? M'billi-Assomo settles down and finishes the round a bit more organized, jabbing the belly.

Round 2

M'billi-Assomo is turning his wrists inward facing each other, spreading his arms wide, and just digging into Landaeta's sides with hefty cutlasses. A bit messy, burrowing his crown into Landaeta's chest at times for leverage and to brace himself, but just wailing away on the Spaniard's midsection. Counter hooking flurries and shoeshines by Landaeta but he can't back M'billi-Assomo off, and finally he goes down in the middle of the ring. He beats the count and is chased down the rest of the way, M'billi-Assomo still mostly hitting the body, with a few spearing rights bypassing the guard.

20-17 M'billi-Assomo

 

Round 3

M'billi-Assomo stalks, keeping the jab sheathed to lull Landaeta into letting his proverbial & literal guard down, and then zaps him with a quick lead right up top. Landaeta stunned. M'billi-Assomo quickly swarms in for the kill and gets the finish in moments, with Landaeta crumbling under a few combinations.

TKO3!!

 

M'billi-Assomo improves to 19-0 (18). Good chance he'll be 27 by his next fight, time he steps up in class.

 

This is the second time in the last hour they've shown Makhmudov backstage, and the second time cameras happen to catch him blinking furiously and giving a shake of the head, as though something was in/stinging his eyes. (already gloved up, so whatever it may be, sweat or what have you, he would need to ask somebody to wipe it for him).

Was he snacking on Jalapeño crisps and touching his face or something? Or are there more nefarious games afoot - did Teper or his team spray mace on his shower towel? (or is this just tabloidesque sensationalizing by a bored IB who anticipates little to no drama in the main event? WATCH THIS SPACE!)

 

Oh yeah, M'Billi claimed some vacant WBC tchotchke with this. Continental Americas 168lb title. It actually used to have a pretty strong lineage, for its first decade of existence most of the holders used it as springboard to world contention or gain a foothold in the SMW rankings to stay relevant (RJJ, Eric Lucas, Glencoffe Johnson, Jeff Lacy, Lucian Bute, Ricardo Mayorga, Adonis Stevenson, Librado Andrade, and JCC Jr. being the notables) but it has fallen off in the last several years: held by Mike Jimenez, DeAndre Ware and most recently Mike Gavronski.

At least it should get Solide ranked top 15 by the WBC, or close to cracking in anyway.

Round 1

Makhmudov is jabbing into the bald dome of the big Turk, and then driving some underhanded rights into his gut as Teper puts up goalposts and bends forward. Makhmudov starts to pick his spots, apparently hurting Teper with a 1-2 and causing him to spit out his gum shield. Replaced, time in. Very wild overhands by Teper in an exchange, getting him clubbed down with counter rights. He beats the count and nods at his corner but his body language isn't great. Stiff jabs by Makhmudov, and Teper dives in to encircle his arms round Makhmudov's waist, but is clubbed behind the neck and goes down again, given another count. He beats it and Makhmudov begins strapping him with rights, and Teper clinches. HUGE left hook just at the bell clips Teper on the side of the jaw and puts him on a stanky leg, falling over sideways and given a third count.
