AA doesn't need to be too active to beat McClellan.
His saving grace in his fight with Jackson was that he could take Jackson's shots alittle bit better than Julian could take his big shots.
If you can survive Julian Jackson's power (many couldn't) & if you have reasonable power, you can probably put him away. McClellan had that.

You think that McClellan is going to put a guy who fought 8 rounds with his jawbone dangling in the skin on his face away? I don't think so.
Don't paint McClellan up to be some mastermind boxer either. He was slightly more polished than Julian Jackson when it came to boxing skill.
McClellan for the most part was a power puncher.... he's going to be punching at AA's high guard all day & leaving himself open for counters like he did with Nigel Benn.

So it would take much more than McClellan being all over AA to beat him.
Maybe McClellan ultimately wins, I don't think he does... but if he does it's going to be very close.
But I'd side with AA's short controlled bursts over a continuous onslaught of McClellan.

    Come on.
That question would only be significant if it were apples to apples.
McClellan and Abraham don't have the same styles.

    Take this possible point:
"McClellan is more consistent he'll bring a constant attack.... so he trumps Abraham there."

So, Abraham rarely tries to overwhelm his opponents with a constant attack.
You can't say that McClellan would just dice up Abraham's defense.... because McClellan hadn't fought a guy at Abraham's level with that exact type of defense.

mcclellan could atually jab when he wanted to and find openings. he had power in both hands. he put together combinations well and attacked the body viciously. he's a better boxer than people give him credit for.

a slick counterpuncher type like James Toney would embarrass G-Man. abraham gets blasted out.

Agree. G-Man had vicious power to the body. I can't remember the other fighter's name, but he stopped one guy with a left hook to the body that I felt. As soon as AA feels the power, he will be thinking of "maybe I should have taken a trilogy with Miranda". AA is not elite and has yet to proof he can be. I respect his courage from the broken jaw fight, but come on now that win belonged to Miranda. I believe I went to the kitchen got a beer and made a sandwich, mind you the bread was toasted, and they still did not decide if AA could continue. Place G-Man fighting AA that night.

I agree that McClellan definetely was the more athletical skilled fighter, far greater movement and a superior jab.Speed about the same, maybe a slight edge to the G-Man but Abraham has underrated speed himself.

About the KOing nobodies it's different.
Abraham is a well known slow starter and really never finishes guys in the first few rounds in contrast to McClellan who was a notorious fast srarter and always went for the early kill.

    G-man splits the gloves early.
    McClellan K.O.

That shell defense don't work against bombs.

    Yes he would.

Benn had bob and weave skills.Abraham keeps them very hidden if he has them.

Why so many joke threads on ESB?

What's next Hagler versus Calzaghe? (they just keep coming)

Always some mediocre guy versus some ATG talent.

Abraham is a notch above a Miranda and that is three steps below McClellan.

Abraham struggled with a bunch of mediocre guys not to mention losing in Miranda I and getting a bit of a gift in a close fight with the hardly elite Eastman.

    Wake up.

Who has AA beat to make you think he should be in the same company as guys like Gman, Benn, RJJ etc? Why are we even considering this fantasy match up it is the equivalent to proposing a fantasy match up between Valero and MAB or Morales.

Here's the same thing I posted in the classic forum about it:

Tricky fight because as explosive as he was, Mclellan never knocked out a fighter who hadn't already been KO'd before he got to them, and he didn't have the mentality to box after losing a couple decisions early in his career. I think Abraham, with the patience, tight guard, and iron chin, outlasts the G-man for a late KO.

I might add, what iron chinned fighter did Gerald ever stop to make people think he would blaze through Abraham early? He was a one trick pony who was great at that one trick, but didn't accomplish enough to get the unbeatable rep he has on here. Exciting? You bet. Great heart? No arguments whatsoever. Unbeatable by a guy who has a chin, defense, and cracks hard enough to stop him? Not even close.

Your an arthur abraham nuthugger because you pretty much broke down a very fair analysis. That is how ESB works, if you are not with the majority you automatically become a nuthugger.

No worries- if the worst thing I get called is a nuthugger, that's actually a pretty decent week for me. :D
