I had Abraham vs. Smith I a draw, as did most (or Smith ahead, or Abraham by at the most a point). The official cards were a joke. Smith was a 7/2 underdog last September but came to fight and unexpectedly pushed Abraham - who in thirteen bouts stretching back almost five years since the disqualification loss to Andre Dirrell has looked pretty awful, going 10-3 (3) and struggling in many of the wins - to his limit. Inexplicably, he is now an even wider underdog in the rematch at 15/4. :blood
First Page of the RBR of the first match.:hey Hopefully Paul will do just a little bit better this time around.
He'll need to. Last time was in Germany but this will be even more of a home advantage for Abraham, being in his city of residence, Berlin. The best Smigga can hope for is to come every bit as hungry and replicate his last performance and hope that Abraham has lost a bit of hunger and sharpness and puts in more of a Stieglitz II performance. Of course there is always the danger Abraham will get up for this and just took Smith lightly in the first place and learned his lesson.
Hopefully Paul will believe he can win this time, and fight with more confidence from the opening bell but even if he shuts him out 12-0 maybe he'll get a SD win and that's a pretty big maybe.
AA had some wins that may should not have been a win, but to be fair with him, he clearly beat Paul Smith with 8-4 rounds! :deal It is all about that one judge that were really absurd, thats the thing the Brit****s dont understand. I see AA knocking Smith out in the rematch.
Abraham didn't clearly beat Paul Smith at all. It was a very uninspiring performance from him. Abraham is nothing special. He never was really.
With hindsight Miranda may not be special, but Abraham's first victory over him, when Miranda was unbeaten and a real threat at MW, was pretty special. He managed it with a broken jaw for 8 rounds.
Undefeated doesn't mean much as it depends on the level of competition you've fought. Promoters like to build up a fighter letting them fight poor opposition a lot more than they used to. In comparison to someone like Miguel Cotto who went undefeated against good level of competition. Cotto was never found out. He beat some good guys. Abraham never really beat anyone good but in hindsight it may have been because he moved up in weight class. If he stayed at middle then he would probably have picked up some decent wins i guess. I mean Pavlik stopped Miranda in 7 rounds. And i rate Pavlik over Abraham. Although, I don't really rate Abraham that much. He isn't really a special fighter in my eyes as he can't move up a level. He's content on fighting a certain type of opponent. Paul Smith is a guy who's been stopped by Groves in 2 rounds and Degale in 9 rounds. He's also fought mostly 6 and 8 rounders his entire career. Abraham couldn't put him away. Abraham's power seems like a non factor at 168.
I had the first one 115-113 AA who clearly underperformed, and the official scorecards were insane, but I don't expect Smith to do much better in the rematch.
Smith didnt win in the ring or on any of the scorecards, even one of them was absurd. He delivered a good fight but it wasnt enough to win. AA had some fights that had the smell of a robbery, but not that one. 115-113 and 116-112 are absolutly ok and 117-111 is not that bad. If I know it will be hard to win on points, I have to do more than punching 12 Rounds on AA's double block :deal
I didn't say Paul Smith won but AA didn't clearly beat him decisively. I mean Degale and Groves both stopped him. Smith's fought a lot of 8 round fights. I'm suprised Abraham didn't beat him easier. I'm suprised Degale or Groves won't just fight Abraham for the title. As they'd both beat him easily. It wouldn't be competitive.
The thing is, both Groves and DeGale need to become mandatory to get the shot. They won't get a voluntary like Smith, who was supposed to be a walkover going into the fight.
