Romero senses that Masternak will be on the hunt, and has his gloves turned out in anticipation to catch punches. Romero takes the fight to Masternak, landing a right hand. Good start to the round for Romero. Masternak feints from outside while leaning back. Quick right hand by Masternak. Another. Romero misses one. Double jab to the face by Masternak. Romero unloads to the body, backing Masternak to the ropes. Getting interesting. Masternak jabs into the guard. Romero is keeping his hands low on the outside but lifting when Masternak throws. Effective cross-armed defense by Romero, keeping Masternak's right hands out. Romero lunges with his own right and is slapped with a couple of counter hooks. Masternak is getting clipped with some arm punches from Romero as he comes hooking in. A minute left in the round. Masternak jabs the body. Romero keeps changing directions on the outside. Hyperactive jabbing to the body by Romero, somehow making it into a full body motion. Uppercuts by Masternak!! Romero runs!! Masternak pursues and winds up leaned against him on the ropes. Romero circles just past a right uppercut, grazing his elbows as he keeps his guard up.

As if it matters, the judges for this will be the same panel that delivered the verdict on Weber vs. Di Giacamo. :yep

 

Round 8

Romero pushes forward, eating counters. 1-2 by Masternak over a soaring right hand. Quick burst combos by Masternak, as Romero moves in with his jaw hanging slack and breathing through his mouth...but still with his hands up ready to block or throw depending on range. Masternak is working left and right uppercuts while surfing to his left, turning like a sundial. HUGE counter left hook to the neck/ear by Masternak. Romero is turned southpaw now, finally. Right jabs waved around by Romero. Pinwheel right jabs by Romero, just pawed in Masternak's way. Long overhand right by Masternak. Jabs to the forehead by Masternak. Romero loads up on a straight left hand and eats a right. Time out for some reason. Time in. Masternak plants his left jab on Romero's head as thee Mexican goes for the body. Romero turns orthodox again to close the round. No increase or decrease in effectiveness.

Actually, when Masternak leans back and slouches on the outside it almost creates the illusion they're level.

 

Round 9

Jabs and crosses to the face by Masternak. Hard uppercut delivered lazily from the outside. Romero's defense is plum gone. Masternak lands rights at will from outside. Masternak is content to just sharp shoot, not forcing the issue. Slapping hooks from outside by Masternak. Romero jogs in place, and hikes up his trunks. Romero circles left and flicks a left jab. Masternak steps around him to his right and jabs him in the head. Masternak bullies him toward a corner. Romero shimmies side to side and throws a heavy left jab. Masternak retakes the lead duties and backs Romero to the ropes with jabs and hooks to the face. Romero gets his hands up, blocking what little he can. Romero jumps forward with a jab, then slaps on the earmuffs. Big combo by Masternak, just flashing quick shots all over the place but a bit sloppy as Romero ducks against the ropes.

It looks like we're headed for a 100-88 shutout (or even 100-87 if Masternak scores another KD in the fading moments...)

Romero may not be your classic "Mexican guerrero" in terms of his style, but he does have CHEEN.

 

Round 10

Masternak winds up and lets loose with some big shots!! Romero pushes to the ropes by hooks and rights!! ROMERO ANSWERS BACK!!! Overhands and wide looping shots by Romero!! Masternak is pushed back now!! Masternak seizes control with shooting-star rights to the face and jabs to the body. Romero covers up and clinches. Break. Masternak jabs into the guard to hold Romero in place and then slams through with a right. Romero circles away and falls to his hands and knees, exhausted. Not a knockdown. He rises slowly but can't fend off the next attack as Masternak unloads!

The referee springs in between them, waving it off!
