Marquez is no chump. He's got a pretty good beard, he's smart and determined. I guess he was supposed to be a stepping stone for that last kid Lorenzo but he managed to squeak by. He's probably feelin' lucky to boot. I don't rate Marquez' abilities as high as I rate Abraham's, but if AA is taking him too lightly, he might regret it. Should be an entertaining fight in any case.

Also, it seems like I figured out some of Abraham's sparring partners for this fight (in an interview 5 days ago, he talked about good boxers from Ireland, Russia and the US) - my take as Raul is southpaw and light mw:

    1. Andy Lee or John Duddy (I'm going with Duddy)

    2. Roman Karmazin

    3. Bronco McKart (that one, I am most sure with), James McGirt Jr.

He also confirmed in that interview that he's 11 lbs over the middleweight limit...

Marquez is going to make it strategically hard for Abraham. Raul performed at his very best against Lorenzo - comes from leftfield and gets off with that right jab, controls the distance and slows down the pace to feel comfortable. On the other hand, AA is all worried about punching hard, fighting in spurts and speeding towards his opponent from his shell. I can see AA getting frustrated and losing rounds but it will depend on how Raul takes those loads, gives different angles on the tight Abraham and sticks back to his own game. Most probably AA by TKO late but it can very well be a major upset.

So what do you think about those most likely sparring partners of AA?

I think it might be a great learning experience for the up and comers (Duddy [Lee], McGirt Jr.) in terms of taking punishment - to be aware of punching power when stepping up in class for their respective fights. Should also help to improve their defense...

Tom those are some good sparring partners, especially Karmazin, if that is who he is using. Abraham has had trouble making weight for awhile, we all know this, and he should definitely move up. I would say forget the Pavlik fight and aim for fights vs Kessler, Bute and Inkin at 168. His activity and power will be better when he is not so weight drained. Either way I expect even a weight drained Abraham to be able to starch Marquez.

How long is AA planning staying at 160?

Duddy would be a perfect sparring partner - he cuts almost as easily as Marquez

Even if Abraham comes in a bit weight drained, I still think he can stop Marquez.. It'll be close the first few rounds due to Abraham taking it easy and figuring him out.. I don't think Marquez will be abale to hurt Abraham much plus he's not getting through that defense.. Abraham will still be able to throw some brutal shots..

    Abraham TKO9 Marquez

I think he'll plan on staying at 160.. The Pavlik fight might come at a catchweight if Pavlik decides not to come back down..

With the continuous punching rate of marquez after 5 or 6 rounds that so called turtle shell defence will come down.
    MARQUEZ 8TH round KO

Per Arum, Pavlik fights AA in January to "make a statement" before moving up.
