Mercante's just an I-talian tough guy referee. He means no disrespect when he implores Yuri to "suck it up." It's just his nature and his way with words.
Mercante is the sole reason why Foreman isn't being labled a little ***** on the General Forum now, and on the grand scale of things, that was the best possible outcome for everyone involved. Cotto got his body shot stoppage, Foreman earned the people's respect, and the crowd got to see as much combat as possible. Well done Arthur Jr.
Wow some of you are some sensative bitches ..Trainers tell the fighters to suck it up all the time but a ref tells a fighter to do so and he's out of line ? Get the **** out of here with that gay **** ..He at least allowed him to continue ..You want to see a disgraceful ref go look up Andrade Bute 1 after Bute gets knocked down that is a disgrace not what Mercante Jr did last night ..Some of yall have your panties in a bunch !!
I don't know why I'm doing this, but I'll spell it out for idiots like you. The principle is that the referee reffs the fight and shuts his goddamn mouth, but since the concept of the referee is too tough for you to understand I'll try to stimulate that one neuron you possibly may have with a graphic example: What happens when in DLH - Pac Oscar wants to quit and Mercante gets in DLH's face and, in front of the whole world, tells him he's a champion and to suck it up? You see? I know you don't so I'll explain further. He puts a tremendous amount of pressure on Oscar to not quit. You know what happens then? No you don't, because you're an imbecile. DLH goes out there even though he knows damn well he has no business being there. And you know what happens then? That's a rhetorical question, of course you don't, you're too stupid. What happens is he joins the ranks of Ali and Freddie Roach, if not worse.
The problem with your post Newby...is that Foreman didn't want to quit. He was pissed when the towel came in and he told Arthur he wanted to continue more than once. You're making it sound like Arthur had him kicking and screaming...bull****. Mercante did the right thing, gave Foreman a chance to keep his belt...but more importantly...allowed him to keep his dignity in defeat...and now everybody here respects him for it.
Let me spell it out for you DIP ****. When did Foreman say he didn't want to fight? He said he wanted to FIGHT. When the towel was tossed Foreman was clearly pissed. SHUT THE **** UP CRY BABY.
MY POINT EXACTLY. Foreman wanted to go on. Newby over here is ignoring that, cause he's a ****ing moo moo.
You think a guy who's knee gave out should keep fighting against anyone let alone a puncher like Cotto?? You think anyone would have thought he was a ***** if he quit right after that first fall??? How the hell would he have been stripped of his dignity if he quit because he can barely stand (and not due to punches)?? I'm not talking about him keeping the fight going when the towel flew in, I can't believe you guys can't understand this, I'm talking about him jumping on Foreman with the "suck it up" shtick after Foreman's knee gave out. But it doesn't matter whether he wanted to continue or not, and the scenario I laid out doesn't matter, it's a matter of principle. The ref has no business saying suck it up.
Yes because a trainer and a referee have different jobs. Is it that hard to understand? And just because a fighter wants to continue a fight doesn't mean a fight should continue. Some of the blood lust in this thread is disgusting.
