FOREMAN WAS THE CHAMPION!!!!!!! he didnt want for foreman to lose the championship becauz of a suspect towel... and beside foreman was down to keep fighting
Right and when a ref tells them to act professional is he out of line too ? I found no problem with what he said he also gave the kid a chance to continue and gave him every oppurtrunity to defend his crown . All boxing matches should be so lucky to have a ref like that ..And some of the gayness on this thread is nerve racking ..It takes a certain type of person to be involved in the sweet science ..Usually ones who have a set of balls and not vaginas ! Foreman was not taking uneccessary punishment where it was to the point he was about to get streched ! Its the over sensitivity of today's fan that softens up this sport ! Im sure you would have been content that the ref stopped the fight thus taking the title from Yuri on a technical decision .Yuri was able to continue he was aksed if he could and his corner agreed .. All the I's were dotted and the T's were crossed ..What else do you want ? Had he been taking a beating like Cotto did against Manny I may have agreed but that was not the case !
You know who actually is a punk? Kermit Cintron. He should hide his face in shame after Yuri made him look like a *****.
I agree with Mercante saying things like "suck it up" (could be his style of words of encouragement) but I thought continuing the fight after the corner threw in the towel was too much. But also, apparently the corner denied throwing in the towel, so what's he supposed to do?? Stop the fight based a towel thrown when noone wants to admit they threw it?
I don't know what Mercante was trying to do. The first time Foreman fell, the ref did good in telling him to continue, but after it became apparent that Foreman's leg was gone, there was no point for the fight to continue. It's the ref's job is to protect fighters and recognize the situation at hand. Foreman is a fighter who relies on lots of movement and doesn't have power. Most of his moving ability was gone because of the knee, and he wasn't likely to KO Cotto. Mercante reasoning for wanting to give the fans their money's worth is BS. There wasn't gonna be any other outcome of the fight continuing, but Foreman getting KO'd or sustaining an even worse injury. They need to better train some of these referees in recognizing injuries and symptoms, for the good of the fighters.
i don't know what the deal is with him. maybe he's trying to live outside the old man's shadow, but i get the impression he's crying for attention.
Are you guys serious? I know mercante's had some stoppages he should've called earlier, but he did the right thing last night. He told yuri to suck it up because by the rules the fight wasn't over. He saw that yuri was trying to tuff it out, so he gave him some encouragement.
Mercante Jr has been a useless, posing-for-the-camera drama queen for his entire career that only got his spot due to his dad. Why is there any surprise if he balls it up this time? The restart call was right, I thought. Everything else was his usual sub-standard job. Him calling the boxers "kid" all the time is massively annoying too.
