Alex Arthur was hours away from seeing his world title dream scuppered until wbo sfw champ Joan Guzman became the victim of red tape.

Arthurs team were ready to pull the plug on his planned show down with Guzman at Meadowbank before the Dominican ran into visa problems.

Broadcasters Setanta are understood to have been told to scrap plans to publisice the fight, originally scheduled for this saturday, because Arthur had suffered a mystery injury.

But immigration officials came to his recue when they refused Guzman permission to enter the U.K.

Before news of Guzman's problems reached the U.k one of Setanta's own correspondents had already posted a story on the internet revealing Arthur would be sidelined.

Now it appears Guzman's visa K.O came in the nick of time to prevent Arthur's advisers making news of his injury to the public.

No one at Setanta or Sports Network management team was prepared to confirm details of the drama which unfolded last Thursday.

But a Setanta insider admitted that when broadcasters had communicated with the promoters earlier in the day regarding arrangements to market the fight they had been advised to put their plans on hold in the meantime.

Whats the reason for Guzmans visa refusal ? I do not 100% believe he was denied a visa. Would love to see his refusal notice. I feel he has a bigger fight lined up elsewhere in a month or two.

Yep Guzman will move on and Arthur will still be sat in the middle of no where.

Not really, Arthur will get to fight some 3rd rate contender for the WBO strap then defend it against bums.

Anyone know if Scott Harisson has got his license back. Even after his long lay off he can easily beat AAA after a warm up or two.

So he has a visa ? :think

Or he made his appointment too late ? :huh

I knew Guzman would not travel to the UK. He did this when he was due to fight Scotty H.

Yep. I can't seem to find any information on this, apart from Arthur was never going to pull out, and Guzman didn't have a problem with the visa.
This reminds me of the Ricky Hatton v Kelson Pinto affair, you just know somebody's lying.

After sitting back for a couple of days digesting al the info I could find, I now have no doubt that the fight will go ahead this year, but dont ask me when.
Im totally ****in bored with it all now though. A man can only take so much.

As for the main story, it was written by Jim Black, & hes not famed for getting his facts right. In other words, he writes a lot of bollocks quite often!!!
Back in the day when Scotty was fighting, he would break 'exclusives' that Harrison would be fighting Luaveno, Smalls etc, & I was always sick of his stories cos they were always totally wrong. He writes for the Sun & NOTW.

Im not trying to cover up for Arthur btw, Im just informing evryone that Jim Blacks info isnt usually worth the paper its written on. In fact, I bet in the next few days Arthur will come out again telling people that hes sick of the press, only last week he was annoyed with the scottish press for starting a rumour that he was injured. Alex came out & said he was in the shape of his life.

& look at this above story, its all based on something written on a website that Arthur had pulled out, i.e. internet rumour.

Watch this space, cos I bet Arthur hits back at this story in the coming days. & if/when he does, I will be sure to post it here.
