    Quote from the article

''Tyson almost certainly would knock down Louis,'' said Nagler, ''and Louis almost certainly would get up and get Tyson in a corner. Louis had a better left. On the basis of reach, he'd be able to keep Tyson off, and knock him out in 8, 9, 10 rounds.''

Are the experts right? Could this

    1. Louis may or may not get up, and he may or may not get finished off right then and there regardless of how great he is....a violent concussion is a violent concussion
    2. Louis could definitely beat tyson but it would almost certainly wouldnt involve Louis getting tyson into a corner, thats absurd, maybe george foreman or even sonny liston maybe but thats not how louis would do it.

    3. The jab might be a key weapon for louis against tyson, although peak tyson had a great jab himself as well as headmovement, but if louis beaas tyson it wont be because of his reach. He would most likely stun tyson with an uppercut on the way in or on the counter and then land a combination and either tie up or step away and repeat the process.

    The experts are mostly clueless

The thing is, I feel Louis had the skill and punching power to beat Tyson

    BUT

The big question mark for me is what happens when Louis catches a Tyson bomb with the speed and power it comes with? I'd favor Louis over Foreman, but with Tyson, the wild card is Tyson's elusiveness and speed and he had accuracy that rivaled that of Louis and was almost as great a finisher. On paper, Michael Spinks had the style and skill to beat Tyson. In reality, it all went out of the window when Tyson hit him flush.

If Louis is still around late, it means he's taken the best Tyson has to offer. In that case, I'd pick Louis by late round KO/TKO. On the other hand, Tyson could blitz Louis early and get an early KO/TKO. This is one I'm unsure about.

On a related note, did you know Mike Tyson's favorite fight to watch is Louis/Conn 1?

I think Louis is a better fighter than Tyson (yes, head to head) but Tyson has the best chance of beating Louis of perhaps any other heavyweight, for stylistic reasons. I'll only say that if you held the fight five different times in five parallel universes, I'm highly confident you wouldn't see the same victor each time.

For motivational purposes, Louis reached his peak for Max Schmeling 2....not only regarding N@zi Germany, but he considered himself not the true champ, until he defeated "Smelling".

That would be the Louis that would trouble Tyson the most....and Tyson would be wise to stay away from "eating his children, & making Louis his GF" nonsense.

Louis should be favourite against Tyson.
Louis had a perfect style to defeat Tyson.

I never knew of anyone during Tyson's career who thought otherwise, (except for maybe Bill Cayton or Kevin Rooney.)

The internet has brought forth some crazy opinions that have caught on, and on these boxing forums "Tyson beats Louis" is about as crazy and popular as it gets.
"Tyson beats Ali" is also gathering steam. Pure madness.

Tyson is the underdog here no doubt, only glimmer of hope for him is that Louis didn't have an iron chin but apart from that he has all the attributes needed to beat Tyson. People keep talking about how would Joe react to a Tyson bomb and it's a legitimate question but I think a better question is how would Tyson react to a Louis bomb ?? Personally I believe Tyson once he felt The Brown Bomber's power would begin to crack mentally en route to a late stoppage.

People have a strange view of Louis's chin too. It's true, it wasn't "iron", but the fact is he was stopped just twice in his entire career, once right at the end by Rocky Marciano, and once early on by Max Schmeling, who had to hit him dozens upon dozens of his best right hands to put him out in the 12th round.
He fought plenty of good punchers. Max Baer, Tony Galento, Buddy Baer, Abe Simon, Tami Mauriello, Jersey Joe Walcott could all punch.

Tyson was stopped by Douglas and Holyfield, neither really known as all-time great KO punchers either !

Louis and Tyson could both punch. They could both take a punch. They could both be stopped though, but it wasn't easy.

Louis was the better boxer. He might have been the best ever.

"I'd never pick against Joe Louis,'' said Arcel. ''He could box, punch; he could do everything. And Tyson hasn't proved himself as yet, even though his record is great.''

    I agree with Ray Arcel.

Of FFS! Tyson drops bombs on Louis. One guy Tyson doesn't shy away from when asked if he would win is Joe Louis.

Excellent fight but Louis isn't surviving a peak Tyson.

I have my own opinion of Ali/Tyson but I don't want this to turn into another thread.

The only thing is though, that Tyson always required a sustained beating over many rounds to KO him and never suffered a flash or early knockdown.

Louis also required such to KO him, but he was floored early multiple times. And Louis exploiting any weaknesses or being around to stop Tyson late would require him surviving the early Tyson blitz. Louis chin is what makes or breaks this fight with Tyson.
