By This content is protected , Yahoo! Sports 3 hours, 21 minutes ago The highly anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao may not be dead just yet. Though Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, whose company has already reserved May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to host the bout, is concerned that Pacquiaos team is not interested, Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum said hes simply not ready to talk now. Arum did not rule out conversations for a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, but said he is not prepared to talk to Schaefer about it at the moment because he has a full schedule. Arum is promoting a WBC middleweight title fight in Houston between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Peter Manfredo Jr. on Saturday, then has a media day for Miguel Cotto in Florida, the Thanksgiving holiday, and then the Cotto-Margarito pay-per-view in New York on Dec. 3. Our position is simple and that is that right now, were not ready to talk, Arum said Tuesday. Im in Los Angeles now, but Im flying to New York in a couple of hours. I have a big fight to promote on Dec. 3. Manny is on his way back to the Philippines today. In a few weeks, whether its a [Juan Manuel] Marquez rematch, a Mayweather fight, a fight with Timothy Bradley, or whatever, well sit down with the appropriate parties and talk. But were not ready to talk about it now. said he would like Arum to meet with him in Los Angeles later this week with retired federal judge Daniel Weinstein, an arbiter who has mediated several disputes between the companies. Schaefer said he believes Arum is not interested in making the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, and so he said he is ready to move on and find an opponent who is willing to fight Mayweather. There are indications that Mayweathers team has reached out to middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, though that could not be confirmed. I left Bob a message two months ago and he never called me back, Schaefer said. I read comments from Bob in the Los Angeles Times this morning saying that Manny wants a rematch with Marquez. What am I going to do, sit around and wait to see what they do? Hell no. I am going to get the biggest fight done for Floyd that I can. We wanted to make the Pacquiao fight, but if Bob doesnt want to do it, or Manny is saying that he wants to fight Marquez, what can we do? Floyd wants the fight. He gave his team the go-ahead to reach out to me to get it done and we are ready, willing and able to talk. But in order to reach a deal, the other side has to want to come to the table. Arum, who said on Saturday he planned to pursue a rematch with Marquez, said hes open to whatever the best deal is and said hed need to speak to Pacquiao. Theres no rush, he said. There is still a lot of time. Manny just had a fight and went through a very hard training camp. Hes going home now. We need to give him a little time, and we have a lot of things to do ourselves. Im not ruling out anything. No decisions have been made. But were just not ready to talk. Schaefer can talk to me, and Im happy to talk to him, but were not going to talk in a negotiating stance just yet because of everything going on. http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news?slug=ki-iole_pacquiao_mayweather111511 Interesting article if true. Reading between the lines I think it's fair to say that it does appear Mayweather's team are the one who seem to be pushing for the fight and for talks to start whereas Arum seems a bit reluctant to start talks. Granted he's got a busy schedule as he stated but honestly, how hard is it to return a phone call? It could be argued that Schaefer should be a little more patient but you can fully understand why he wants to get parties round the table. It's dragged on for far too long. I get the impression it will be Pacquiao or Martinez next for Mayweather.
I mentioned this article earlier. From it sounds like Arum might give it a chance but he does mention marquez iv and bradley. He says not now but he doesnt give a concrete response that it will be discussed. The only one that can make it happen in Manny. If he pushes Arum to get the ball rolling
yup..like the fight was going to be signed sealed and delivered a week after Pac had a horrible outing.
maybe Juan 4 and Bradley are used as options for posturing just like how Floyd has Sexy Sergio and Amir as plans B and C
Floyd has never mentioned sergio. He's always linked with these fighters or creates an impression that he will take them on then chooses an opponent who is an easy payday and somewhat known to creat a ppv event
he mentioned Sergio before all the way back last year anyways Sexy Sergio is waiting on the sidelines for a Mayweather fight
expect bob to come out with a lie within a few weeks for the media about how Floyd is "ducking" then a few months down the road we'll find out emmanuel still kont tek bluhd tezt!
I don't expect a fight signed, sealed and delivered now. But Arum said in the media a million and one times that nobody called him blah, blah. In reality his phone been ringing PRIOR to the marquez win. Team Floyd went public prior to the fight.. Whoops, I just gave *******s another excuse. Floyd calling out Manny disrupted his mojo.
Mayweather -Martinez or Khan Pac will fight a Top Rank fighter, because Bob said so. In fact Bob will negotiate it, and set it up and call Manny then tell him when, where and who he fights next.
I hope it happens. I can see floyd winning it at 154. He mentioned him during his retirement? Lets see if he follows through with it if the pac fight falls through.
