It is a good article by Slater, regardless of his pro DLH opinions. He is stating that Las Vegas Nevada is starting to feel the negative kickbacks of the **** Poor Economy that George W. Bush has left America with, after 8 horrid political years with his incompetent ass at the helm. There now exists a Worldwide financial crisis that has hit the Home Market the Auto Industry, and now, Boxing.

This **** was forseen by me Jack "Nostradamus" Presscot, a while back in 2008, when I was angry that GBP was charging PPV $$$ for the Joel Casamayor Ring Belt Title defense against JMM. "That Event is not a PPV fight" Jack thought to himself. I called a CEO at Time Warner and argued my case, only to get laughed at and told, it was not my, nor any "Hardcore Fans" business, as to which fights were PPV worthy. I then reminded Mr. CEO that we the fans were the ones purchasing this, and we would fight back with our wallets, and then challenged him to show off the PPV numbers for Casamayor-JMM, which he again refused.

I felt vindicated months later (After GBP was reluctant to show those PPV numbers. BTW) when I read an article on fight news, in which Richard Schaefer was pissed off about the dismal PPV sales of Hopkins-Pavlik, another fight I refused to pay for, and I understand the numbers for RJJ-JC werent that wonderful as well, and I didnt buy that one either.

Las Vegas is now in danger of losing it's Status as the Supercity/Mecca for the Big Fights. As it is now, Hatton is still pushing for Wembley for May 2, and Margarito-Sugar is at the Staples? Hmmmm. Here are some reasons for Boxing's Decline.

    1. MMA. Dana White is going to take over the Sport by watching GBP and doing the OPPOSITE. Great PPV undercards, all action fights, blood, and drama, a villainous WWE Champion in the mix, and showing off the Hott Ass Ring Girls the entire fight. Also, using SPIKE TV as a major commercial for the UFC. Showing fights for free and advertising the PPVs is genius.

    2. Cost. The Joe Average Fan simply doesnt have 700-1000 dollars to travel to Vegas to be there on Fightnight. 346 round trip airfare, 175/night Fri-Sun, 250 for a nosebleed ticket plus spending cash in this economy? I dont think so. Vegas is going to either have to lower their prices, or start losing revenue to other Arenas, like the Pepsi Center in Denver, or Atlantic City, or perhaps Staples. Or some of the Bigger Indian Casinos.

    3. The loss of Yesteryear's Megastars. Pacman is done this year, as is Oscar and Tito, and Vargas. Sugar is still holding on, but RJJ and JC are also finished. James Toney will probably retire at the end of 2009. That leaves us with Winky Wright and Bernard Hopkins. Yechhhh:tired

    4. The **** Poor Heavyweight Divison. The cautious Klitschkos are about as exciting as a bowl of lard with a hair in it. There is no one that exciting for them to fight. Mike Tyson and Lennox are missed.

Thought, comments, from all my Hataz are welcome!:hi:

    Good points Jackstrodamus Presscot.

Boxing is changing, and it's only hope is the new blood. Let's hope that the upcoming crop of prosepects isn't overly protected or unevenly matched for too long.

The up&commers are the ones fighting in smaller venues and at much more reasonable prices...we at OTG Radio intend to closely follow the careers of the sports prospects, in hopes of finding those who are the future of boxing...and helping them to get where they are going any way we can.

As the old promoters (of which DLH might as well be one, with his business practices which are sometimes considered worse) may possibly start dying off this year, maybe somebody in boxing can begin to follow Dana White's lead.

Thanks for the heads up, Jack.

Vegas is hurting badly right now, and not just for boxing. It's really going downhill quickly from what I've heard.

It's amazing, just a few years ago it was one of the fastest growing cities in the USA.

Here's another example of how bad the economy is right now: One of the American football teams, the Minnesota Vikings, had to get two extensions and have one of their players literally begging fans to buy tickets in order to sell the game out and avoid a local TV blackout. And the team has the leading rusher (running back) in the league and the city is very much pro football.

    Tough economic times all around.

The answer is real ****in' simple. Lower ticket prices. Sweet package deals. If Hoya fights Tito in November, he and Tito need to take less money and offer the Average Fight Fan a shot at some decent "non nose bleed" Tix for under 250. Vegas needs to get out of the dirty ass habit of jacking up the prices for the rooms on Fri and Sat nights.

Signs of bad economy goes back 2 years now, Jackstradamus, who forecasts by phonecall. :D

But nice post based on an artical which was based on another article. The whole LV='Mecca of Boxing' tale was based on casinos paying to use that title (site fee), these days are maybe over. Bad? Hardly... finally big arenas/stadiums with cheap tickets and promoters forced to do good promotional stuff? Like back in the old days? Hell yes!

Or will Dubai buy out the Mecca of Boxing brand? 'Battle in the Berj'? 'Boxing in Burj'? 'Fight on the 200th floor'? Well, for PacMan and Hatton fans it makes no difference, it's the same trip. Less drama at the borders, a bit more cost and no alcoholic beer (?). But PacMan-Hatton should go to The Philippines or Wembley, and we all know that.

As Jack rightfully pointed out, promoters doing the exact opposite they should, and will lose to a White boy. Casino fees are the first to go, but what if HBO decides to pull a Solo Boxeo? What if they'll say $5Mil is too much risk for certain superfights? Promoters depend on site fees and TVs. Sites depend on selling expensive tickets and hotel rooms, but the ticket sales are dropping, and HBO depends on PPV revenue but people refuse to do large numbers, and the oldies are going out.

In terms of match-ups, 2009 looks awesome. On a financial side though, it can be a poor year. But at least promoters like Oscar or Bobby will be forced to go to the stadiums and sell cheap, but many tickets. The crowds can bring boxing back to the top.

    Arum and DLH are big.
    But not THAT big! :D

I agree with you. Boxing should be held at the culture center cities like NY or Los Angeles so that even if fans do come in there is stuff to do around town while they are not at the fight. I mean, if you are flying in to Vegas you have to bring a shitload of extra cash cuz you are in Vegas! Not so much so than if you were flying to Los Angeles or NY. Plus, the amount of ticket sells that would be taken up by the tristate area as well is staggering.

I kinda like the idea of opening up arenas with tons of cheap seats as Oscar did against Forbes. Maybe now that Oscar took his assbeating he could become a full time promoter because he did have innovative ideas but he is going to wait until he is fully retired to implement them.

It's about time you changed your avy. Every time we had to look at the last one you had we would just not enter your thread at all, insult you or just :dead! Fans are tired of seeing fights where it looks like one guy is supposed to dominate the other.

After winning a controversial fight over Marquez, Arum proceeded to kill us fans by making fights for PAc with Diaz and Dlh. We had three good fights in Marquez-PAcquiao, Cotto-AM, and Hop-Pavlik in 2008. There were a few unnecessary ppv fights that us fans thought weren't ppv worthy, but how as a fan can we complain to a higher up which fights are worthy of being ppv or not? That would be like someone else telling you how to make or spend your money.

Do to the fact that the heavyweight champ is also not popular or his promoter giving fans a competitive heavyweight title fight is hurting boxing. It isn't that the champ is from another country. Wlad brings no life or exposure to boxing or their fans, and the heavyweight champ is more than likely the most known, and the baddest man on the planet. The MMA will be dead soon so they can have Vegas. Boxing needs evenly matched fights. It only takes one big fight to bring boxing back. Boxing doesn't need Vegas, boxing needs big fights! A time for change is always necessary! Boxing doesn't need Vegas.

That avatar with that idiot David Duke was put on by a Mod, in response to me calling one punch "David Duke" I left it on because I thought it looked funny, but I found an avatar which will **** off certain posters even more. It shouldnt affect you, as it shows a naked woman, if Jim Brown had been hugging Prince, you would probably have some new jacking material, there Nallege.

Anyway, we as the fans complain with our wallets. If I, JP dont purchase the PPV, that means 54.95 less in the bank accounts of Arum, Oscar and Richard Schaefer. Do I have a right to complain, as a CONSUMER that I am getting sold an inferior product. YOU BET YOUR little JALAPENO DICKED ass, there Nallege. Can you imagine, (I am assuming that you are a fan of the worthless NFL, NBA and MLB) if some genius CEO of the NFL as a League, decided that from now on, certain games were going to be PPV. And then, all of a sudden, they decided to make all MNF games PPV. And then they decided to make all games after 12 noon on Sunday PPV? Wow. The OUTRAGE would be incredible, the fans would probably burn down NFL Headquarters.

Yet we, the boxing fans of America, get screwed by Arum and Oscar, and it's, I guess to you, very natural. I am a fan. Pavlik vs. Nobody is a ****, non PPV fight. Pavlik vs. Williams at Middlweight, I'll pay for, but not 54 dollars. 29 dollars.

MMA is going to take over Vegas, and in my opinion, take over a lot of boxing fans and their PPV dollars, because Dana White knows how to put on a PPV Event, Oscar and Richard Schaefer and Bob Arum, do not. Lets look at Lesnar's rematch against that guy who made him submit.

First off, Dana is going to use SPIKE TV (Read, FREE TV) to promote the event. Then, he is going to put together a STRONG undercard, including some bloody chick fights, and wont be afraid of showing off Sexy Ring Girls. (Maybe Dana can use some "Ring Boys" for you and your kind, there Nallege)

It will be well worth the $$$$. That **** fight on December 6th was worth about 12 bucks.

I agree with everything except to blame Bush. The financial meltdown started with Democrat leaders and Clinton during his administration who made promises to people with lower incomes that anyone who wanted to should be able to buy a house. Because there were millions who would not usually qualify with the current guidelines those guidelines were compromised to allow absolutely horrendous loans to be made including adjustable rate loans. Not to be left out the normally qualified buyers then were allowed to re-finance with terms that allowed 100% and higher loan to values thus depleting all of their equity which then allowed disposable money to be taken out of their homes and used for consumer spending. All guidelines were thrown out the door and anyone who could breathe were GIVEN credit for anything. It became a lending orgy! Those loans then were packaged and sold and resold by the millions as investments to large managed funds, insurance companies, pensions and bank investors. When it came time to adjust those loans people (who normally could not qualify anyway) now could not make their payments and the dominoes started to fall.
It had very little to do with Bush.

If we had used the monies we used to fight the useless and senseless "War in Iraq" to help the US Economy, we would all look like the Monopoly man now, wearing a diamond watch. Instead, after 8 years of Bush we look like the Monopoly Man wearing a barrel with suspenders.

Look at the crowds the Klitschkos draw and compare. Vitali sold out in MSG, in Germany he gets huge crowds, so does Vlad, they are very exciting fighters, the best out there. They are simply hated because they are European. They are very skilled, big, experienced, and I am tired of hearing so many out right lies about them all these years.
