Tyson was never mentally strong. When tested by guys who hit back and lasted a while, we saw what happened.
Going off that argument, Ruddock should have squashed him both times. Heck, he would have lost to Tillis long before that. I'm not in total disagreement, but I think you need to formulate a deeper argument than that to convince me. :think
Come on now ghost. You cant seriously claim that Tillis, Green, Berbick, Bonecrusher, Thomas, Williams, Biggs, Tubbs, Spinks, Bruno, and an old Holmes et al were the strongest era of Heavyweight boxing?
Carl williams went 15 rounds with a atg Larry Holmes, most people thought Carl won.I do believe tyson was drinking heavily before Buster as he recently admits to being an alcoholic.I believe he didn't train for Buster because he felt so superior to him and was partying to much.why is that hard to believe? you know he was a head case.the very next fight Buster gets crushed by Holyfield! He (Tyson) may have been "ripped" from all the cocaine and probably did minimal training.Plus, ask yourself, what did Buster offer that all of Tyson's other opponents did not have? He was ordinary.Tyson was great, every former champ was at one time or another made to look foolish by "average" opponents. No one is so superior that they crush every one all the time.Larry Holmes went 15 rounds with Berbick,Mike Spinks(twice and losing), Carl Wiliiams,Ken Norton, none of them great fighters Tyson would have killed them,13 rounds with Cooney! 12 with Lucien Rodriguez(who the heck is that) 12 rounds with Mike Weaver. If Holmes was an ATG,What does that make Tyson? who,I feel, would have destroyed quickly most of the guys Holmes went many rounds with (or lost to),that makes Tyson one of(if not THE best) ever.
There is no proof there. Just excuses put out to the media. Vitali was upset he couldn't ko Chisora after he was slapped before the fight. He wanted to make excuses for the fact he was being run down by Chisora towards the end instead of getting him out of there. There was no injury. You can see that when watching the fight and the punch stats below prove it. http://www.***********.com/forums/view.php?pg=klitschko-chisora-compubox After the 3rd round Vitali's punch output increased and he finished the 12th round throwing the most shots of the fight . After the 3rd round his power shots increased. The proof is there that he wussed out with an injury excuse because Chisora gave him all he could handle. Struggling with Del Boy doesn't make a good case for him beating a prime Tyson. Edit. Linked seems blocked. Enter -vitali klitschko dereck chisora punch stats -into google
That is the whole point though ghost. Other than Lewis, Holy, Bowe , and Ruddock, who WERE these " tough contenders?" That leaves him losing to 2 beating 1, and not fighting the other. Sorry but I am just not buying Tillman, Stewart, McNeeley, Seldon, Norris, Francis, and Saverese as tough contenders, even Botha. If people can slag off the also ran's of the golden era, then wtf do that lot come to?
Tyson was hanging around the zoo's by day and partying at night. He had no team or corner men with him and they all told him not to worry about Douglas.
I dunno Dino, the link I got doesn't really back up that, to be honest. Yes, his punch stats seem pretty consistent throughout the fight and he did throw the most punches in the last round, but this bit is also interesting: Vitali avg’d just 22 jabs thrown per round and 5 landed per round, after averaging 44 thrown/12 landed in his previous 8 fights. Vitali also threw 18 fewer total punches per round than in his previous 8 fights. Perhaps an injured shoulder? Give the classless Chisora some credit, he landed 45% of his total punches and 45% of his power shots, but averaged just 30 total punches thrown per round. EDIT: Same link, sorry. http://www.***********.com/forums/view.php?pg=klitschko-chisora-compubox Just trying to be fair on both sides... But what I found interesting is that Chisora landed 45% of his power shots. That's a pretty significant number considering he's a slow-footed plodder with marginal skill. But again to be fair, I think Vitali has been declining as a fighter for a while now.
Tyson's post-prison career was mainly smoke and mirrors. Of those, I think Stewart was a good opponent. (He was pre-prison though.) Stewart gave Holyfield and Foreman a lot of problems, despite losing. Other than that, the competition he beat wasn't great at all. I watched the second Bruno fight again last night, and to be honest, Tyson looked so slow there. He was so sloppy and slow to reset; no spring in his legs at all. Nothing like he used to have. He just went in looking for the haymakers and didn't set up his punches whatsoever. The finish was excellent, but he looked rather crap up until that point.
Some Vitali fan wrote that. Look the power shot stats. His power shot his his right hand. He was throwing more power right hands as the fight went on. That aint a guy with an injury. I do agree he was on the decline though. He just didn't beat Chisora with one arm like the nut huggas like to preach.
Will try. Ruddock wasn't very good to begin with. Tommy Morrison knocked him out. Some if Tyson's fans ( not saying you) are in denial since he lost to Douglas.
Drugs and alcohol didn't become a big problem for Tyson until his 3rd comeback (After the Holyfield ear biting incident). I doubt he was really strongly abusing drugs and alcohol until after the Lewis fight though I speculate he was doing that crap a lot more then he ought to at that time. I wish Tyson was as invincible as he seemed to be, it would've been great but its just not the case. He wasn't superman as a matter a fact he isn't even amongst the greatest boxers to ever live.
You can not equate Tyson's losses to Williams and McBride to Ali's losses to Frazier and Norton. Tyson was a decade and a half outside of his prime.
The Douglas that fought Tyson would give any heavyweight trouble especially two Ukrainian statues. Vitali could not floor Briggs, who was past it ,Lewis dropped and stopped a prime Briggs, thats it in a nutshell ,stop with the excuses. Ibragimov kod who? ps Its VITALI, how many times have I said that?
