All right, I can buy an inch or two taller if they were born 50 years later. The key though is being heavy just to add weight doesn't help in boxing. Everyone has a best weight for them. If you add too much weight, speed, and conditioning suffer, often making the fighter worse.

What do you think of James Toney going to 250lb and going toe to toe with Peters?

I agree with this...and that is the point of my responses you could be a naturally larger man bone thickness, tendons thicker, stronger ligaments just bigger not fatter or bigger unnatural muscles per sey with a proper nutrient rich diet....the author took a solid scientific theory/fact and exaggerated it to the point of taking away from the idea and changed the focus of the discussion. But make no mistake instead of a 6'1" 187lb Dempsey maybe a 6'2.5" 205lb Dempsey for example we don't know but if his life as described is true then no doubt he went without key nutrients enough to limit his potential even to a small degree.

We do as of now know that my Nordic/Germanic ancestors over 1000 yrs ago were considered huge at 5'8" + - and 1000-2000 yrs is not enough time for a major evolutionary genetic change but evolution in our context is defined as social evolution trade with other cultures, travel, increase of knowledge and language....and access to more foods and today the Nordics are considered the tallest people on average. Most scientist agree it is mostly affected by nutrition available today to your average person.
