But it gets better. Look at who one of his possible opponents could be: http://www.pnj.com/article/20081110/SPORTS/811100321 It appears Roy is buying into the cut being a main issue (and why not? RJJ has never been cut in any of his previous bouts, at least not like that), his getting too set on trying to catch Joe after the first-round knockdown and, finally, that Joe Calzaghe may be a lot better than some of the other possible opponents out there. Very curious to hear what others think about this, particularly Roy fans. I'd be thrilled if Roy could come back and get a few more quality wins.
Damn, retire Roy. atsch He was a great fighter and a legend. Sad to see great fighters like Roy who dont know how to quit. :-(
I agree, although Roy may be thinking the same way. His eye was cut up and he took some shots, but he wasn't that badly damaged in the fight. And he made some good $$$. He might want another few trips down that cash-filled lane.
Its too bad... Dawson will stop him no doubt in my mind. Roy should just retire... be a commentator or something, i love when hes a guest for fights. But as a fighter he doesnt have it anymore.
No one who cares about Roy wants to see him fight on any longer. He is not an elite level fighter any longer and has not been since Ruiz. It is time to retire. I never thought Roy would be one of those fighters that never knew when to quit! Roy- please retire!!!
Since Johnson...Roy lost the Championship mentality and never tried to fight for a Championship, until vs Cal. Ali needed the dough. SSL needed the strokes....just like Jones. There is an old saying. You can't get a young fither intothe gym, or an old fighter out of the gym. Roy needed his strokes....and he is the type that will always need his strokes. Roy should stay away from Erdei. .and Garvey, and and and.... Well Roy can fight Ottka now...it should be sort of even. Ottka really needs the money so would take 1/3 in a heart beat. Lets here it for Jones next fight...vs Ottka.:good Don't that just make you want to jump up and run out and buy a ticket.:tired
Jones is indeed very faded and cannot compete with the top guys at LHW anymore, but I really can't see him finish his career like that and he still may have enough left to take on a lower top ten guy. Well, a 4th match with the equally faded Tarver would be an option, so he can finally get his revenge. A rematch with Glen Johnson would be another possibility, but I wouldn't like to see Roy taking so much punishment again... Alternatively, why not have a last fight in Europe, like in Germany against Zsold Erdei? It would be huge and very winnable for Roy - and it would shut up everybody who criticized him for never travelling over the pond..
Erdi would give Cal lots of problems, and Jones would be an easy fight for Erdi... and I'd get to see it for free.... Erdi is much too much problems for Roy....the only way that would happen was if some one stold all Roys game cocks and held them for ransom. Had Roy thought he could beat Erdi, he'd called him out after losing to Johnson. So you know Jones won't take that sort of fight....who is someone no one ever heard of? What retired boxer is "safe" for Roy?
