On a night filled with up and coming stars in the world of boxing the oldest dog of the bunch ended up making more of an impact for his career than any of the younger guns. This past Saturday night at MGM, Juan Manuel Marquez looked outstanding in defeating the always durable Michael Katsidis. While Marquez looked extremely impressive by displaying his never quit mentality by getting up from a viscous knockdown in the third only to end up winning by TKO in the ninth, I'm still left not caring to see a third fight between him an Manny Pacquiao. While my opinion is more than likely in the minority for the category of 'who should Manny fight next' I'll still attempt to explain my reasoning for as to why I don't feel that Marquez should be the first in line to get a shot against Pacquiao. Michael Katsidis: I can see why anyone that has never seen Katsidis fight would jump to the conclusion that after Saturday night's fight between Marquez and Katsidis that he should be seriously looked at as the next guy to fight Pacquiao, but the truth is that Katsidis, for as courageous and fan friendly as he is, just isn't that great of a fighter. Katsidis is one of my favorite fighters to watch but facts don't lie. Katsidis has tremendous heart and always finds a way to go out on his shield against upper tier fighters but he always goes out, not sometimes, but always. continued http://joeshowradio.com/archive/articles.php?id=20101128-Why-Marquez-Shouldnt-Fight-Pacquiao
Styles make fights. This will ALWAYS be a good matchup. Sure, Pac is more solid now than he was when they fought previously, but Marquez is a great counter puncher and the perfect opponent for any offensive good fighter. Mayweather is obviously too big a coward to come forward, so give Marquez the shot.
:think Haven't seen too much of Katsidis, but he took the fight to Marquez. You say you're a fan of his, why can't he throw a decent straight right? That right he throws, is it some kind of hybrid hook and straight, it's really God damn ugly... :smoke
Luke speaks the truth... Look no further than Muhammad Ali's main opponent's in the 60's/70's Liston, Fraizer, Norton, Foreman ect... All different "styles" who each gave their own nightmares to one another including Ali. When matched together tho the outcomes were as different as day & night. (Compared to their H2H with "The Greatest".) Why..... "Styles Make Fights"
I can´t say Marquez has not EARNED the right to be considered for a third match with Pac. But this time i fear for Marquez life. This time he´d be facing a Pac that has almost the same speed, but at the same time bigger and stronger, and a bit better technically. And team Pac won´t accept going back to 140, that is almost certain. If this fight will serve only to add more fuel to the Pac haters. Pac should fight Berto and/or Bradley. I´ve had enough of the mexicutions.
