So, Beterbiev is fighting Murat in an IBF eliminator. Beterbiev also "accepted" to be WBO mandatory when Dominic Boesel told WBO HQ that he didn't want Kovalev and that he was content defending his intercontinental title at home - honest guy!

    http://www.rds.ca/combat/boxe/boxe-karo-murat-comme-prochain-adversaire-d-artur-beterbiev-1.2635371

List of IBF ranked guys and their reasons:

#3 Hopkins - turned it down, no specific reason
#4 Skoglund - turned it down, manager said 'too young for a fight like that'
#5 Fonfara - turned it down to fight Cleverly in a WBC eliminator
#6 Monaghan - turned it down, no specific reason
#7 Pascal - turned it down, says he doesn't need Beterbiev to get a title shot
#8 Barrera - wanted the fight in the US but Duva could not get a TV date, can't fight in Canada due to visa issues
#9 Gonzalez - turned it down, no specific reason

Beterbiev will have mandatory status to two of Kovalev's three belts by December. Beterbiev is a Haymon guy, Kovalev is exclusive to HBO, Haymon guys are not allowed on HBO.

Will Haymon force Duva to have Kovalev drop one of those belts by taking it to purse bid? :think

A Stevenson-Kovalev purse bid vs Haymon scared her off, there's a precedent. :hey

He doesn't want to close down on Kovalev too hastily, he could see himself on the mat quicksmart.

Nah, I think Haymon is taking it slow. Get one belt stripped off of Kovalev, have Beterbiev grab it in a vacant title fight... then negotiate a unification with some leverage rather than none.

He's breaking Duva down, he'll make her quit a la Ortiz. :yep

I can understand why B-Hop, Pascal, and Fonfara turned down the opportunity what with B-Hop being 50 years of age and coming off a one-sided loss to another beastly puncher in Kovalev. Pascal is his stablemate so that's perfectly understandable too. Fonfara is obviously facing Cleverly. Skogland's manager was honest about the reason why they didn't fancy it. Barrera had visa issues so I can understand that too. Not sure why Monaghan and Gonzalez would've turned down the opportunity though. The former has said he wants anyone and everyone and Gonzalez would've been a great opponent.

Beterbiev doesn't need a mandatory status to fight Kovalev. He was offered to fight this fall but refused.

As a boxing fan, this upsets me greatly. All this boxing politics has to go. The fact that some are enjoying the fact that an undisputed champ would be forcefully stripped due to financial/channel reasons is a clear indication they are not fans of BOXING, they are groupies rooting for their own.

I'm pretty sure both HBO and Haymon are both content with this fight taking place anywhere, it's much smaller than Kov-Stevenson fight, the one both sides REALLY want.

Kov will have a voluntary in Jan on HBO then if the unification with the Pimp doesn't happen he will take on Beter on HBO, PBC or even Showtime next summer.

You also forget that this would be a big fight in Russia and someone like Ryabinsky might win the purse bid. Haymon needs to stop ****ing around with purse bids and do actual negotiations like they did for Alvarez-Chilemba :thumbsup

No, but soon. I think considering how few fights he's had it wasn't the worst idea to hold off for a little bit. Either Ward or Kovalev will be the man to beat since it seems they're setting that up for down the line. I think Artur needs to become a bit more polished. I just hope he fights one of them by the end of next year although this Ward/Kovalev fight may take that long to happen. I hope he didn't miss a big opportunity by not taking the fight now.

Who cares, the fight is not happening. Damn, just read both. I think Kovalev and HBO will have to come to some sort of agreement then to accept the purse bid, you can't just give up two titles.

How can he fight on PBC when he's HBO exclusive? :conf

If Ryabinsky can come up with the money this time, good for him. Yvon Michel called it an "illegitimate offer", said the Russian was blowing smoke everybody's azz.

That's what I mean, Haymon is breaking Duva down bit by bit...

The only good news we can hang on to is that Beterbiev is not with an actual PBC feeder-promoter, he's with GYM. We're more likely to see Beterbiev on HBO than Kovalev on PBC, imo...
