I've been on the Beterbiev hype train for years now. Now everybody is just piling on as they should, welcome aboard. This guy needs more fans, he's a pleasure to watch. That said, he looks "average" good in the ring. He looks like a decent fighter, but just a regular degular looking champ, not a p4p fighter. He's not fast, he's not flashy. His punches are not crisp or artistic. He doesn't punch with much snap or fast twitchiness. He's not a slickster. He's not a one hitter quitter type puncher. But his style is brutally effective. Dare I say he's actually much better than even the former non believers would now begrudgingly admit? An amazing fighter.
He's just a bulldozer. Plenty of guys look average in the ring, but everything they're doing is amazing. Beterbeiv is one of those fighters.
Hello, fellow fan. I am a big fan of Beterbiev too. He reminds me of Joe Louis. Effortless power. Subtle yet devastating.
He squashed Gvozdyk and Johnson who are very very good fighters even the fights he lost in the amateurs were close and the opponents came away going ‘thank goodness that’s over with!’
He is very heavy handed. He breaks you down slowly depending on how you want to face him or he has zero respect for you and blasts you out. The way he demolished Tavoris Cloud and Campillo was brutal.
AB is growing on me. His fight with Johnson was good. Also respect for not hitting Johnson on the back of the head, waiting until he had turned around scoring the knockdown. He could have easily kept punching
He is actually quite limited for a guy on his level. Reminds me of Wilder as they both know they have tremendous power and thats what they focus on. Of course Beterbiev actually knows the basics and is a solid boxer. Wilder... not so much. Beterbiev knows how to set up his power punches and thats all he needs, but he does do a bit more than just that. Otherwise Gvozdyk would have completely outboxed him.
Artur is so badass he looks even meaner and scarier sans a beard. Let that sink in. This content is protected This content is protected He's shaved his head Wish these had English subs This content is protected This content is protected
Usually when someone has huge power, and certainly when from Eastern Europe, they get viewed as face-first brawlers. Even Kovalev was viewed that way by some, until he completely schooled "master boxer" B-Hop. Beterbiev is technically very sound, is extremely poised and calm inside the ring, and places his punches very well. It's the point when he hurts someone he sometimes gets sloppy, but otherwise he just breaks opponents down with well placed shots and cutting off the ring. His power absolutely helps his resolve, because it seems that everything he hits you with hurts. Big nono against him is trying to hold when hurt, because he's physically extremely strong and a very good wrestler. That's why I always viewed him as a worst nightmare opponent for the likes of Ward, who uses clinch both offensive as defensive.
I would not be surprised if Ward is winning wide on the cards against Beterbiev, but gets stopped in the 11th or 12th round. Wouldn't surprise me at all. Ward was a very physically strong fighter. In fact the only physically stronger opponent he fought was Carl Froch and we saw how in the last couple rounds Ward was having trouble coping with Froch's physical strength. Beterbiev is far stronger than even Froch.
