Artur Beterbiev vs. Bernard Hopkins

I too am a Kelly Pavlik fan. He was a well schooled fighter with great power at Middleweight before alcoholism derailed his career.

The comparison to Beterbiev is that hes a on orthodox, basic up and down, power puncher. Somewhat true, but the similarities dont go on forever. Beterbiev is far stronger physically than Pavlik both in a p4p and absolute sense. He hits harder than Pavlik in a p4p sense too. Sure, when Kelly gets full leverage on that right he can be devastating at 160. Beterbiev is devastating at 175 with either hand and with 6 inch range of motion.

I love Kelly Pavlik because he was a likeable guy, with an entertaining personality and a damn good fighter before he become an alcoholic. But hes just not even close to as good as Beterbiev. Even in a p4p sense there is some separation.

 

All the PEDs and juice in the world that Mackie Shilstone could provide Bernard would not be enough to save him against Beterbiev punching his head in.

 

The size/ weight difference matters a lot. The same Ward was SMW boxer for almost all his career and only in the end of career bulked up to LHW limits. The same time these Gvozdyk and Beterbiev are opposite: they trimmed down to make LHW limits and seriously.

 

The biggest problem that Beterbiev and Gvozdyk are not only damn huge for LHW, they also aren't typical just headhunters.
They might punch body, liver, ribs, cos they are huge for LHW relatively wearing down effect might have their punches if they landed on shoulders, upper and lower arms.
Gvozdyk being huge for LHW dude had suffered a lot from Beterbiev's body punches and get finished in distance, was 6 times down in their fight. Yeah, he landed more punches on Beterbiev than Beterbiev on him, this didn't helped.

When you most likely know that Beterbiev now is 36 and visibly on decline you might start your casual pro western fan posts in forum.
While your western stars had avoided 30-35 y.o Beterbiev and Gvozdyk like death. Causal western approach where boxer is a brand.

I think Gvozdyk was better or at least more effective than prime Hopkins.
You most likely even did not had noticed that both : Hopkins and Ward are too small for modern average LHW dudes not to talk about huge for LHW boxers dudes like Gvozdyk and Beterbiev.

With the same success you might place prime Hopkins vs Dorticos. You might type in forum what you wish, not only prime Hopkins, also Canelo will not travel till cards vs Dorticos.

Not alone to talk about your westerners huge value of surnames: public buying Khan, pushed up WW boxer beatup from famous cherry picker Clenelo.

Beterbiev if he was 30-35 y.o had did with Hopkins, Canelo and Ward exactly the same as Canelo did vs Khan, just damn faster.
Dorticos might turn famous Canelo in Khan II in few rounds.

When notable surnames there are posted, brain stops to work.
Maybe do not waste time and immeadiately put MW and SMW boxers to compare what will happen with them at HW?

While I don't think that Beterbiev is better boxer than Loma and Rigo, they will fly out of the ring vs Beterbiev.

And difference in S/C and fitness level, size between Hopkins vs Beterbiev is far more huge than Lopez vs Loma.
Buatsi too will beat prime Hopkins in pulp maybe just cos he is huge for LHW boxer.

 

Beterbiev is not massive though. He doesnt even touch 200lbs off camp.

 

How about his domination of the much bigger Tarver. Tarver is even bigger than Beterbiev as he came down from over 200lbs and was usually around 190lbs in the ring. All of Tarver's size, strength and greater punching power meant nothing because he couldn't apply it.

Beterbiev to make his strength count would need to actually get to Hopkins but Hopkins whole style was to disarm guys like Beterbiev, using movement and clinching. Against guys that don't know how to clinch like Gvozdyk, Beterbiev can rag doll them but someone that knows how to clinch can take away a stronger fighters strength. I don't care how strong you are you are only as strong as your weakest point and good clinchers know the right techniques to exploit weak leverage points to smother and disarm stronger opponents.

Too large for him? He's only and inch taller with a half reach inch advantage, basically Gvozdyk is the same size as Tarver at best the same Tarver Hopkins schooled and dropped. Gvozdyk is a good fighter but he's not on Hopkins level. Just on head movement alone, Hopkins superior. Hopkins has the better right hand too. Gvozdyk throws a good right himself but the difference is Hopkins after throwing his right uses his forward moment to take him off the line to his opponents right side while Gvozdyk if he misses the right is just there to be hit.

Don't know why your bringing up AJ or Dorticos, using imagined scenarios to support your point while I actually break down fighters techniques and proven skills.

You are just coming off like a fan boy, trying to make it out it's about name alone, try breaking down techniques, try giving examples to prove those points instead of making up imagined reasons for people disagreeing with your point of view.

 

Ha, ha. Hopkins was MW division boxer till he turned 41 y.o and sorry, the same Ward most likely had picked apart Hopkins in age 41+.
While he was great fighter, looks that you are judging more as fanboy than I.
You might insist that >41 y.o Hopkins will beat all ppl in the world.
I do not agree and I think 30-32 y.o Ward had beated up >41 y.o Hopkins versions. Not alone this will do these large LHW dudes.
