I'd really like to see Hopkins record broken. What do you think of this match up? James Toney vs Murat Gassiev, 12 Rounds for the IBF Cruiserweight Championship of the World.
Round 1: Beterbiev comes out and circles the ring, while Prieto presses behind the jab with the apparent intent of forcing the issue. Prieto backs his foe to the ropes and steps forward....directly into the path of a monstrous right hand that deposits him onto the seat of his trunks! Preito up at 8, looking about as shocked as you might expect. After an initial follow up flurry forces Prieto to hold, Beterbiev circles again, seemingly content to draw Prieto in. His opponent takes the bait, and eats a series of short punches in close that send him reeling back into the corner. Beterbiev follows up with a couple of hard hooks that sends his foe onto the mat again! Prieto tries to get up, falls back down to his butt and then somehow manages to get up in time...but the official has seen quite enough and calls it off! TKO 1!
Round 1 Prieto coming towards Beterbiev looking to get aggressive, he shoots out a jab, Beterbiev slides along the ropes and gets away, Prieto jabs to his stomach Beterbiev answers right back, Prieto backs Beterbiev into the ropes, Beterbiev unleashes fast savage straight right catching Prieto right on the button, down goes Isidro, he barely makes it up, Beterbiev stalking Prieto trying to get away, Beterbiev lands a cuffing blow, Isidro holds, short one two rocks Prieto, Prieto backs away, Beterbiev stalking traps Prieto, they tie up, Beterbiev landing one twos and jabs, Prieto rocked, falls into the ropes, Beterbiev follows opens up with a few bombs at close range, down goes Prieto again, the ref waves if off. Beterbiev wins by KO1
And someone who is brilliant at catching him as they pivot. Kovalev has THE best chance to beat him. What a great fight that'll be.
I think what I liked about Beterbiev's performance was the patience he showed in those two and a half minutes. That may seem incongruous given the brevity of the conflict, but he moved well and countered effectively, and didn't seem terribly concerned about the possibility of Prieto lasting the round after knocking him down with the first punch thrown with any real intent. If he continues to show refinement of that sort, he'll be a scary, scary guy for anyone at the weight to face.
To be fair, Beterbiev is gonna have to step up the level of opposition next year, I think. You can only face the Madernas and Prietos of the division for so long before wearing out your welcome.
Barrera's got decent pop and good skills, but if he allows Beterbiev to get in close he's probably doomed.
Kovalev-Ward winner will fight Stevenson. Smith Jr-Barrera winner should fight Beterbiev-Alvarez winner. Then the winner of that should fight the main champ.
I actually rate Barrera and think he's pretty good...just wanted to lol @ ThatsRight haha 'your so bias!'
