I have decided to create this thread, as a spin off to the thread titled: ‘A prime Roy Jones vs Artur Beterbiev’ Artur is an elite level LHW who is very well schooled. He is also renowned for his great strength and power. John Ruiz was a decent HW with an ugly style. On a P4P basis, Artur looks to be the superior fighter. However, as we all know in this great sport: Styles make fights. Could Artur’s superior talent overcome disadvantages in height, reach and weight? How do you think a fight would have played out? Thanks.
When people see this thread, it will no doubt grab their attention. A definite 100 pager. Guaranteed.
Sometimes the quality of John Ruiz gets lost in the haze of his awkward, ugly style. He fought a lot of good heavyweight opponents and he held his own, winning as much as he lost. He was a big guy, usually weighing between 230 to 240 pounds. Most importantly he could take a punch. Yes, he got starched by David Tua but there is no shame in that. I think Beterbiev could comfortably and effectively weigh 190 to 195 pounds. His power might increase a bit and I don't think his quickness would suffer. However, I think Ruiz would find a way to beat him by competitive decision.
OK im here buddy! my take: you said again that Roy win easily(scorecards 116-112 so 4rounds up) not so easily then! and also 230lbs Ruiz(normal HW in our era ie only 6lbs heavier than Bridgerweight limits) have hit Roy a couples of times(common!) and Roy take it well(win the fight not too bruise) and you tell me that the proven chin of AB would't substained that? Help me to understand your logic please! and on the other thread a troll have said to me that AB would't beat others HW of this era...and what about Roy then troll? I never said that AB would beat all HW...only Ruiz! and again(im not finish my rant) posters said too that Mike Tyson would destroy AB in first round...Tyson have career all his fight at HW contrary to AB and have bigger bones(ie frame and muscles) than AB(i never said otherwise or he will beat a prime Tyson anyway).Only a couples of posters are with me(ie not underate AB) and of course Serge.Well im pretty much finish talking about a hypothetic fight(i just don't like it anyway). And im tire to repeat myself because of posters have reading problems or memory problems.im out.
Eureka!! Firstly, is Artur afforded the luxury of being able to jack himself silly with roids and bulking up 20 pounds or whatever the amount of roid pounds it was like Roy clearly did for Ruiz? And is he also afforded the luxury of having a tag-team partner ref who won't allow Huggy Bear Ruiz to hug incessantly ie. fight his usual fight which is what got him to where he was in the first place? To be honest, I'm not sure Artur would need such advantages or such a stacked deck to beat plodder dosser octopus Ruiz. In addition to Usyk, who as I've explained campaigned at HW and even up at SHW in the WSB against SHW 230-277 pound giants, a bunch of whom were elite as it gets and savage punchers at that weight, saying an 185-187 pound Artur gave him his roughest fight and that he hit very hard, Artur actually obviously campaigned up a HW in the ams (basically what CW in the pros) himself for s while with good success and stopped a lot of his much bigger opponents. He beat Michael ''The Bounty" Hunter Jr. in the Olympics who had spent most of his am career up at SHW battling elite SHW giants like Tyson Fury who he swears to this day he almost knocked out and was robbed against, Roberto Cammarelle, Islam Timurziev, Oscar Rivas etc. and Hunter was the one who had to spoil and hold in the final round and who was physically being outmuscled by the smaller man. And yes I'd pick Hunter to beat Ruiz in a heartbeat and obviously Usyk plays with Ruiz in his sleep and Artur gave Usyk hell three times, losing by 4 points in very competitive fights on the two occasions he lost to him. Like I said, Artur was giving away a lot of weight up at HW, weighing 185-187 which is 14-16lbs below the HW limit in the amateurs. But he still managed to stop a lot of his HW opponents with big gloves and head gear on and even you casuals should know that stoppages are rarer in the ams than the pros 2012 Olympics Won against Michael Hunter on countback, Lost on points to Usyk 13-17 2012 Chemistry Cup (Halle, GER) 1st place 91KG Won against Wang Xuanxuan (CHN) AB 3rd round in the final; Won against Julio Castillo (ECU) 14:5 in the semi-final; Won against Elber Passos (BRA) RSC 3rd round in the quarter-final; Won against Johann Witt (GER) 14:9 in the first preliminary round 2012 International Team Tournament (Almaty, KAZ) 1st place 91KG Won against Aleksey Sevostyanov (KAZ) AB 2nd round; Won against Suliman Abdourachidov (FRA) WO; Won against Manpreet Singh (IND) RSC 3rd round 2011 AIBA World Championships (Baku, AZE) 5th place 91KG Lost to Oleksandr Usyk (UKR) 17:13 in the quarter-final; Won against Djakhon Kurbanov (TJK) AB 2nd round in the second preliminary round; Won against Mario Heredia (MEX) AB 1st round in the first preliminary round 2011 Umakhanov Memorial Tournament (Makhachkala, RUS) 1st place 91KG Won against Jose Angel Larduet (CUB) WO in the final; Won against Abdulkadir Abdullayev (AZE) 11:3 in the semi-final; Won against Reza Moradkhani (IRN) RSCI 1st round in the quarter-final 2011 Russian National Championships 1st place 91KG Won against Abdulkhamid Nurmagomedov (RUS) 15:4 in the final; Won against Arbi Madayev (RUS) WO in the semi-final; Won against Spartak Bakhtiyarov (RUS) AB 2nd round in the quarter-final 2011 Great Silk Way Tournament (Baku, AZE) 1st place 91KG Won against Teymur Mammadov (AZE) WO in the final; Won against Vasiliy Levit (KAZ) 3:0 in the semi-final; Won against Sarkhan Jabbarov (AZE) KO 1st round in the quarter-final 2010 Russian National Championships 2nd place 91KG Lost to Pavel Nikitayev (RUS) 12:3 in the final; Won against Abdulkhamid Nurmagomedov (RUS) AB 2nd round in the semifinal; Won against Pavel Shulskiy (RUS) WO in the quarterfinal That big stuff dosser octopus Ruiz's form against the Soviet school is even worse than Roy's He lost to virtually every fighter he fought from that region: Fat lazy dwarf Chagaev Nick Valuev whose bones were about three times his chronological age due to his condition, had a small tumor of the pituitary gland at the time which could've killed him, and is the worst HW to ever come out of Eastern Europe Golota's ghost (robbing EE fighters over there ain't some new phenomenon. In fact, Golota got robbed twice over there) And 14-0-1 Sergei Kobozov (RIP) And world amateur gold and silver medalist Andrey Kurnyavka in the ams But to be fair to Ruiz he did manage to beat fellow dosser Yuri Yelistratov who was coming off three back to back defeats Let Beterbiev bulk up to 200lbs naturally unlike Roy, Toney and Evan who all needed to jack themselves silly with industrial amounts of roids for a big stiff plodder dosser octopus like Ruiz, and Ruiz gets euthanized on his own soil by him in brutal fashion /Thread Serge destroys
Loma, Usyk, and Beterbiev have managed to turn the General into the Classic and it ain't their fans creating all these threads and flooding the first few pages. Hypothetical match up thread after hypothetical match up thread to try and discredit them Relax! Take a deep breath. Hold it in.. keep in held in.. and just a bit longer.. now exhale and relax. It's going to be alright guys I promise you. Everything is going to work out just fine This content is protected
The thing is, clinching Beterbiev has proven to be a huge mistake in the past, because he mauls you with short punches. If Beterbiev could travel back in time, and fight Ruiz in the early 2000's, he'd probably win or be robbed by the US judges. Just because he then could bulk up on roids. If early 2000's Ruiz could travel forward in time, he'd probably clinch a victory simply on size disparity.
If Ruiz was successful with his typical style he may wear him down, but if not, I’d say he loses. I say this as a guy who likes Ruiz.
Good well thought out post! I'm definitely not a fan of these hypothetical matchups that have been happening lately in the general forum especially when there are so many solid fights to be had in the present. I don't know about anyone else but too me Beterbiev vs Bivol is a far more entertaining fight to talk about than speculating on whether Beterbiev could out wrestling that big old bear Ruiz. I'm just glad I don't have to suffer through John Ruiz fights anymore.
Go and watch the fight. Roy cruised by him in a boring fight. Forget the scorecards, see for yourself. It was an easy win. Norman Stone was screaming at Ruiz: “Johnny! Why TF are you waitin on this guy for!? Just fight him!” I never said that Artur couldn’t have taken Ruiz’ power. Regarding your other points, that’s for you to discuss with the other posters. I never said that Artur couldn’t beat John Ruiz. Sure, I could envisage him beating Ruiz. Again, he’s a much better fighter than Ruiz. But he’s a LHW in the professional ranks. So based upon how they’d have matched up stylistically, I think it would have been an interesting fight. Could Artur beat him as he is now, as a LHW? Or would he have to bulk up to HW? Would the extra weight be beneficial, or would it be a hindrance? All interesting factors to consider. Apart from Ruiz, who could POSSIBLY have been tricky, you would expect Artur to have beaten all of Roy’s other opponents. But again, there could always have been an odd surprise along the way. It’s boxing.
Great post. I hope that you’ve had a great Christmas. I expected this exact response. Ha! Brilliant. I think it would be an interesting fight, despite Artur’s amateur success at the weight.
I certainly wasn’t trying to discredit AB. I just thought that it was an interesting question which was asked by Joe-Fist. Would AB have been able to have beaten all of Roy’s opposition? An interesting question. To me, The only potential fly in the ointment would have been Ruiz. Not based on his ability, but just how problematic he may have been, due to how they’d have matched up stylistically.
