What happened to his career is a damn shame. Even if he gets out of GYM, he can't get that time back, and boxing is worse for it.
4 fights a year for 6 years. was the total contract. what about the fact he never fights ever despite wanting to.
What was probably not in the contract: Ramandan, which Beterbiev follows, shoulder injury, which Beterbiev had, eliminator, which implies to follow the rules. Plus the judge noticed that Beterbiev was already a world champion, in only a few fights, which means GYM didn't do that of a bad job on promoting Beterbiev. Beterbiev never made any effort to make himself marketable in his market. He never learned french, which would have helped him (ie Bute). I personnaly have no sympathy for Beterbiev who made a bad decision by sueying his promoter in such a crucial point in his career.
Now, Beterbiev's contract is probably for sale. And it will be expansive. Beterbiev could apeal. Good luck on that, it co$$$$t a lot of time.
Give me a break. Like Canelo made an effort to learn English. This is simply a case of terrible management. I can't believe the judge didn't rule in his favor. Blows me away. Why the hell would GYM cling to him when they haven't done squat for him?!
Well GYM lost money on every single fight they promoted him, hoping to cash in when he was a champion. When Beterbiev was starting to get money fights, he wanted out of the contract. GYM should just let him go now that he is making money. Yeah right, the judge ruling is reasonable. Canelo is not a good comparaison. Canelo is getting money from Mexican fans, either living in Mexico or in the USA. Beterbiev has no fan base. He could have build one by learning french, which Bute did (romanian being a latin language helped).
I just don't see it this way. Great fighters can talk with their fists. They don't need to learn the language. GYM clearly has let Beterbiev down. He should have been a household name by now with his record and power. Unfortunately, we will probably never know whether Beterbiev had greatness or not. He does have a law degree, though, so he can at least fall back on that.
You have the right to your opinion, but the Quebec market just doesn't work that way. Hard core fans see Beterbiev as an exciting fighter, but you need to do some extra work to get the fans in your local market to buy the tickets. Beterbiev screwed up (almost) his career and he has only himself to blame. He can now be reasonable, or go all in in his crazines.
Well, Canelo is bit of a different story. He has a great boxing nation to lean and he is from that nation. And he has that peculiar physical look. Also he was built up on name opposition. From local journeymen to Hatton(i believe the fight was signed before the WBC belt became available), Ndou, Cotto and Vazquez. Alvarez was extremely active and he got to fight Mosley on the undercard of a blockbuster event. Beterbiev wont even engage with the local fan base.
Beterbiev's career has been wasted for a long time now. He needs to get a real promoter, someone who does not hate Eastern European fighters...............
Hearn should put Beterbiev vs Johnson as chief support to Whyte vs Parker .. That would make for a great undercard for a change since Fast Car hasn't stacked a SBO show in donkeys years. Just skim some of that billion dollar Dazn money off the top so its not like he can't afford it. And im sure Beterbiev would jump at the chance to get a slice of some meaty Sky PPV money. If a good fight like that isn't added , its going to be the usual wank of Katie Taylor vs who? / Yeleussinov vs who? ..with the chief main being Campbell vs Mendy rematch , but knowing Hearn these days , he'll probably save that for Joshua's undercard
His career was already stalling, he is one of the main members of the ‘who needs him’ club. Even without a belt people don’t wanna fight this guy. Now with this court case loss, I think this could be end for his career. It’s a shame coz we never saw him against one top 10 guy, he is aging, inactive and his last performance showed that he is rusty. Whilst I would pick Bivol to beat him, I think stylistically he could beat Kovalev and Stevenson
Sucks for Beterbiev, but he done this to himself. He wasted more precious time of his prime which equals to lots of $$$ only to find himself back to square one. This guy really needs some good advisors, he sued his promoter when he was on the verge of becoming world champ claiming at the same time that the promoter didnt fullfill his promises of giving him a title shot inside three years.
Pretty sad for Beterbiev and for us too.He is brilliant fighter with power and chin and even boxing skills too. I think he got mad at his promoter after that Barrera fight that fell apart and the drama surrounding what caused it and stuff.Beterbiev should just try to force unification with Kovalev now and hope that Stevenson will fight him when hes 45 as passing the torch fight or smth. Not much of a choice really.Should fight-lost enough time already.
