    Beterbiev's Weaknesses

    - is too economical. This isn't the mundane pointscoring amateur system anymore. He has greater scope than virtually all to be able to play dirty, amazingly well - (think Maidana) if he is willing to do so, he could be the one to beat Andre Ward.

    - Doesn't use his time efficiently enough. His style buys him time and the capability to set up traps. He only does this on a micro level. I've always stated the professional ranks will suit Lomachenko because of this very facet that Loma increasingly is utilising (now you're starting to see it in great effect vs Gamalier Rodriguez).

    - The neck based push knockdown that Page Jr landed on Artur is no surprise, Artur tends to retreat from sharp linear attacks in a very predictable and slightly irresponsible manner.

    - If baited into a trade, Beterbiev is used to getting the better of it because of his strength and power, but he's taken big shots in return here and has forgone structure to become a little sloppy - something like this can catch up to him in the pros, especially against a Kovalev.

    - He can use his strength to wrestle and hold an opponent in place, however, he doesn't set up shots of his own, on the inside. Ward will be too slippery for him on the inside.

    - Head can be too static at times

    - Not too difficult to turn Beterbiev and make him eat your punch

    - He can switch off momentarily at risky times

    These weaknesses CANNOT be forgotten.
Kovalev is good at fighting on the outside, is technically proficient and should give Beterbiev some problem, but Beterbiev has a good chance of a KO too, a very good chance (most probably in the latter stages of the fight). It's a hard fight to call that'll need more ****ysis.

As for Ward, I don't expect Kovalev to beat Ward, I think if Beterbiev adapts in the way I stated, he has a decent enough shot to be the guy to beat Ward.

That was a very good punch that was landed on a squared up Beterbiev, and Beterbiev took that very well, recovered quickly, and when Beterbiev gets on the clinch, you're not getting out of his Beterbear hug. He can buy time well.

Edit: Beterbiev should have won that fight.

    Very good assessment. :good

I'm not sure if Beterbiev's trainer (Marc Ramsay) is the type who can get the best out of him in the Pro circuit. Kovalev has made a significant degree of improvements and adjustments with JDJ. He simply has a better team than Beterbiev in my opinion. That will be a huge factor.

Can we just say every boxer that has been knocked down has a glass jaw :D

Also, Beterbiev has time to improve/adjust on these weaknesses. And it looks like he's not taking the Kovalev fight anytime soon.

Most of the above can be corrected. Beterbiev is being moved quickly and thanks to his power has not learned a lot in the ring as a pro.

Beterbiev's problem is that he has very static footwork, go watch his fight against Page, Page was turning him in circles. That's not a good thing.

Yup, relying on his power too much, against Johnson he had no jab, looked a little lost at times and didn't throw anything. And I think sometimes he has a problem manufacturing offense.

Yup. I don't know enough about Marc Ramsay as a trainer, Kovalev however is primed for success. Jackson understands Kovalev very well and is getting the best out of him.

No evidence to suggest so. If you're appealing to that video above, it wasn't a knockdown, Beterbiev recovered very quickly and the opponents game is centered around throwing hayemakers.

The Jeff Page Jr phantom knockdown was a neck push.

They can, but will they? Is his trainer even working on this, I wonder.

His footwork is educated, but with his style and advantages, although he can and must improve this, there's an extent to which this can be done until it may reduce his advantages.

I disagree with his inside work. I think he's very good in getting himself out of an opponent's clinch and making him pay for it dearly. We've seen this in multiple fights, and seems to be the thing with wich he can beat Ward if he'd step up and if a JZ vs Haymon fight can be made.

It's educated but it's very sluggish. I think he displayed improvements in this area against Campillo, he was more on his toes bouncing around but usually it's almost like his feet are planted in cement.
