The problem with him is he's a little too stationary, and needs to set his feet to really throw with power Nothing that can't be fined tuned though, he has those typical Eastern European heavy hands, where he doesn't need to put much behind his punches to hurt you, very similar to guys like Kovalev and GGG
He doesn't counter or throw from the defensive posture. If his opponent is leading, he's backing up, covering, or trying to brawl. He's got good flow when he's in brawl mode, but a good offensive fighter could put him on his heels so long as he could effectively tie him up whenever he's tried to brawl
Artur has sparred with some top names in the division. Pascal (of which there is video footage), Isaac Chilemba (Yvon decided not to go for a Chilemba-Beterbiev fight because Beterbiev finished him in 2 rounds), Caparello and some guy called Ajisafe. Caparello thinks Beterbiev is going to be the stalking aggressor vs Kovalev. Yeah, he has a very thick musculature that I haven't seen in the other light heavyweights.
I think Beterbiev's robe, trunks and shoes, color scheme is tacky and will eventually lead to his undoing. The red/black clearly creates a slower target and can help his opponent focus on counters. The shine of the material also creates opportunities during clinches and can promote premature fatigue. The heavy material and advertising on his gear can also add extra weight making him slower. The way he ties his laces cuts off the circulation to his feet and can cause sprained ankles from tripping over their excess length. The hair on his arms and legs also slows him down and allows him to get turned via centrifugal force. All the sweat on his arms gets trapped in his arm hair and can blind him when he raises his arms to block punches. This is all correctable if he works long enough with the right fashion designer and manicurist. I just do not know if Canada has very good manisureists and fashion designers. -Gannicus
I'm tougher on the guys that I root for, I just want them to be as good as I think they can be. Everyone was raving over Loma's performance vs Russell Jr a year ago, I expected it and was talking about things I didn't like about his performance :nut
hahaha dude are you really hating on Beterbiev just because he's with Haymon? if you call that glass what do you call this? [YT]G_fEOQ0eoPI[/YT]
Yep but the same sparring - regardless of quality - will not neccesarily be teaching Beterbiev anything new. Besides I dont think Beterbiev is sparring Stevenson.
Kovalev's glass is getting it vs Beterbiev. Atoev is not even a known puncher of any sort, he's a 160lber, he was a very small light heavyweight in that video. He returned to middleweight thereafter. Having said that, Stevenson is not going to be the one to tap Kovalev's chin, Aduckis POS Stevenson is getting his china smashed.
