I remember a poster here comparing him to Joe Calzaghe... In that he never particularly made an attempt to come to the states or to participate in mega fights over the course of his career. But, said poster said he felt Grigorian at his best was better then Joe Calzaghe, more impressive. Made 17 title defenses and went undefeated for a decade before running into Acelino Freitas in his late 30's. Who remembers him, and even more importantly why is he so forgotten?
I made a thread on him a while ago. Can't remember if i compared him to Calzaghe though. It's easy to realise why he was forgotten; he wasted his career defending the WBo belt against cans in Germany.turning pro quite late and eventually becoming injury prone didn't help him either. he had loads of technical ability and showed good toughness in last few years while washed up. Can't really say for sure how he would have done had he taken on better opposition unfortunately.
Searched and found this post from you in the underappreciated 90's fighter thread. "Artur Grigorian...better fighter than Calzaghe imo, but unlike Joe, totally wasted his career with the WBO, only cashing in at the end of his reign when"
I saw him only once against Matt Zegan, and my man Zegan was robbed. Worst robbery in polish pro boxing history. But I think that Grigorian was on his downslide at that moment so I can't judge him.
