Neither scenario, murder or suicide, would surprise me. I find it strange that of all things to hang yourself with, you would use a PURSE STRAP? I don't know much about purses but I have a tough time believing they are strong enough to support the weight of an 180 lb man. Plus, Amanda Rodrigues was released from jail all smiling for the cameras, that didn't sit well with me. There was also the case of him changing his will so she would be the beneficiary if he died, but that almost seems TOO obvious. To have that and not even wait a couple months before killing him? On the other hand, the investigators who said it was likely murder were private investigators hired by Gatti's family and friends. Not the most objective opinion. I think a big motive for that was because of the will and his family fighting for his estate. Gatti's own brother and close friend think he killed himself. The 48 Hours special seemed to be more of the belief of suicide, while the HBO Real Sports (which also dealt with the deaths of Arguello and Forrest) seemed more skeptical about suicide. I don't know if we will ever know the truth, but a pet peeve of mine is when this topic comes up, there's usually some people that say "no way he'd quit on life, look at his warrior's heart in the ring". That is such horrible "logic". We have no idea what was going on in his head and how he was dealing with day-to-day life. But we do know that he had substance abuse issues and there is a real possibility that he had brain trauma. We do know that his own brother, a fellow boxer, thinks he committed suicide. No way can I rule out the possibility of suicide when a member of his family thinks he killed himself.
I've run across a few on boxing forums that didn't like him, for different reasons. His violent tendencies outside the ring, the low blows he got away with against Rodriguez, the Gamache weigh-in debacle...some others got annoyed with HBO's lovefest of him, and seemingly more of the fact that other exciting fighters with a lot of heart get overlooked (which is not Gatti's fault). For the most part, people like him. He was in so many good fights.
What was really disturbing to me was a few years back on HBO, after he was dead, his wife was boiling a silver, or gold Necklace he always wore, WTF:huh, that was a huge red flag to say the least... I don't think Gatti belongs in the HOF, but he was as tough as they come, the beating he received at the hands of Floyd Mayweather, was ugly, he never quit...
I felt sorry for Gatti in that fight, and normally I'm pretty detached emotionally when watching a fight. Gatti was just so hopelessly outclassed and that was rather sad to see. The worst part was that Floyd lacked the power to KO him quickly, so he took a painful, humiliating beating.
I also did not need to see Gatti's dead body on the floor during that documentary. They could have left that out, it was unpleasant to watch.
yea foul play for sure. No way Arturo gives up his life, a case of Samson and Delilah and walking into a trap....many a tough guy was lured by the power of the woman.......cover-up and pay-off
I know people close to him and it was his wife that drove him crazy before the Floyd fight and he supposedly went on a coke binge that week.....dont know if it was just an excuse but she was evil
I think he met his wife after 2005, which was when he faced Mayweather. Maybe it was a different fight.
