How do you assess Gatti at 130? With the modern weigh in he would gain up to 15 lbs or so pre fight. Sure he was hittable...but he had serious power come fight time... How do you think the overall size advantage would play out against -Eric Morales -Marco Antonio Barrera -Roger Mayweather -Sandy Saddler -Juan LaPorte -Barry McGuigan
I don't think he would have beaten any of those guys. He decisioned a pretty good fighter in Patterson. I remember him having loads of trouble, and being hurt by a natural 122 lb. fighter - Jose Sanabria
Prior to 1998 Gatti was 29-1 (24) overall and 4-0 (2) in World title fights at 130 Lbs. His only loss was a 6 round split-decision to King Solomon in his 7th pro fight. He had wins over Tracy Harris Patterson W12 x2, Wilson Rodriguez KO6, Calvin Grove KO7, and Gabriel Ruelas KO5. He lost his next 3 fights in a row which were at 135 Lbs. LKOby8 to Angel Manfredy and 2 close decisions to Ivan Robinson. He won his next 4, 3 by KO including a brutal beat down over Joey Gamache, KO2, who he outweighed by some ridiculous amount at fight time. His next fight was at 147 and he was beat down badly by Oscar DeLaHoya, LKOby5. It looked like his career was over. He went 6-1 (3) in his next 7 and looked very good in these fights. He beat Millett KO4, Ward L10 and W10 x2, Branco W12, Dorin KO2, ad Leija KO5. Other than the Ward fights, he really didn't take much punishment. Next up was Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mayweather easily beat Gatti and stopped him inside of 6 rounds. He went just 1-2 (1) in his last 3 fights and was stopped twice. At 130 he was a very special fighter. He boxed very well against Patterson x2, he came back from near defeat to stop Rodriguez and Ruelas. He jumped up to LW and stopped Calvin Grove in a non-title fight between defenses. I think Gatti gives a lot of JLW and LWs plenty of problems.
