Same-day weigh-in, Schoolboy all day. Gatti’s eye starts swelling at the weigh-in, as usual, and Bobby closes it in the first few rounds. It would be a rock-em/sock-em affair with lots of heated exchanges but Chacon takes the lead as the cyclops becomes blinded to right hands and scores a TKO 9. Day-before weigh-in? Gatti weights 145 or more in the ring after 24 hours of IVs and is just too big and strong.
Warren was one of my faves growing up and still is. I was driving on a fairly long trip recently and revisited the ‘Excitable Boy’ LP. Golden stuff.
Made his last album while terminally ill. I can't listen to his version of Back in the High Life Again without tears in my eyes.
I sat by my 83-year-old mother in a hospital the other day after she had heart surgery (successfully, thank goodness). I had one thought several times: Enjoy every sandwich. RIP Mr Zevon.
Interesting fight at 130. Both of them had their best wins at 130 against big name older fighters who were certainly past their primes.. Gatti beat Gabriel Ruelas, Tracy Harris Patterson and Calvin Grove while Chacon beat Ruben Olivares and Bazooka Limon. For me, I have to go with Chacon. It would not be easy, though. Gatti was much bigger and would have had quite a reach advantage. For that reason I will go with a bloody decsion win for the Schoolboy.
Chacon for me fought at a higher level. He has wins over Danny Lopez, Ruben Olivares, in my view Gatti doesn't have a single win on that level. I know Olivares was past his prime but he's still an ATG. Gatti's best win over a real notable name is probably Tracy Harris Patterson. But his weight best was Super Bantamweight and he was undersized against Gatti at Super Featherweight. Gatti also wasn't really competitive against any of the upper echelon fighters he fought. Where as Chacon was ahead on points against a prime Alexis Arguello at one point before being stopped on cuts. Don't get me wrong I do like Gatti alot but I just think Chacon showed more at a higher level. Chacon could also box aswell as he showed against Danny Lopez in a very convincing win. I'll go with Chacon by UD in a great fight.
Awesome my man. Give her a hug for me. I lost my 85 yr old Mom this past spring. Passed with just myself in the room. Less then 2 weeks ago I lost my very best pal. My Pitty Hank. F#####g cancer.
Chacon is the better and craftier boxer of the two despite being easily drawn into a war. I see him out pointing and then stopping Gatti if he fights the way he did against Danny Lopez. A savage bloody affair no doubt about it though.
