Bob Arum's words: "It is against my financial interest, but I will cheer for USyK in the challenge! It's stronger than me. Joshua doesn't excite me. I don't have a great opinion of Joshua because, whenever his name is mentioned, I see him lying on the canvas after being hit by a non-puncher like Andy Ruiz! I'm serious. I might underestimate him maybe, but I'm not convinced that Joshua is an elite heavyweight". Is Arum right on "The Bodybuilder" or not?
As long as Joshua fanboys stay in their place (unlike Tyson Fury fanboys) and don't say anything crazy like "Joshua beats prime Lennox Lewis" then i won't say Joshua's overrated. Im looking at you mark ant
The Bopfather is always full of ****, but sometimes on the money. Joshua is certainly overrated by his growing troop of dedicated internet fanboys who insist that he has "the best resume at HW by far" despite not having one of the top 3 wins in the division, and a devastating quit job loss. People thought Hatton would've beat Floyd if Cortez hadn't reffed the fight. What are ya gonna do? People are blind to logic when they decide upon a favorite fighter.
Bob is just trying to wind up Eddie Hearn. That much is clear. But there is an element of truth behind that statement tbh.
Is it Joshua who is underrated and Fury who is overrated? I think Fury would beat him but i'm not sure it's a foregone conclusion that will happen.
Maybe if he fakes Covid, never defends a belt, avoids the best and takes nandrolone, then he can be the best like Fury is. Right?
voted no might have been prior to the ruiz loss cant speak to social media because im not on it there will always be posters who love a fighter and over rate that fighter but in general i dont see a big tendency to over rate him he is largely viewed as a top 3 heavyweight, some think usyk can beat him but many feel he can beat wilder i dont see anyone really making bold historical statements regarding his career thats usually a tell tale sign if anything i think the ruiz fight may haunt him for a long time as far as standing unless he were to beat fury and or wilder
Parker said Ruiz was the hardest puncher he ever felt. -Fast hands too. In the HWs it only takes one punch..... Ruiz had his day - and deserved it.
How can he be overrated when no one really rates him that highly? He's either the best or second best in a relatively weak division, and he's clearly got his flaws and I think a lot of people recognise that, even in most media. Perhaps pre Ruiz he was getting overrated but I think it's calmed down now
He punches so hard that he KO'd shot Chris Arreola, oh wait he didn't. Punches so hard that Ruiz knocked Parker down in the 12th round and had him hurt, oh wait that wasn't him. Let's be honest Ruiz ain't a big puncher. Don't believe everything Parker says just because he's from New Zealand. Ruiz doesn't even have a high KO ratio for the amount of fights he's won. Ruiz is fast hands and can throw a high volume of punches but if he was had some prolific power how come he was never known or shown to have devastating power or devastating combinations ? Makes no sense. The fast hands probably just caught Parker off guard. Thats the most likely answer, because evidence shows he isn't pillowfisted but he isn't a notable puncher. Joshua was caught with a shot on the temple and it concussed him.
If anything, he’s kind of underrated. He has the best resume of any heavyweight right now, and usually, the #1 HW will have a lot of people saying “Oh, he’s the greatest ever, he could beat almost anybody before him.” Fury, Wlad, Lennox, all had/have guys saying this about them. Joshua doesn’t really have too many guys saying this about him. He gets less respect from hardcore fans than Vitali despite having easily 10x the resume.
Yes. Suspect chin, tires after 6 rounds, defense isn't great, lack of head movement, not great footwork. He is also vulnerable to hooks and counterpunchers. He's competent in a lot of areas, but doesn't really excel in any facet of his game.
