I beg to disagree puga. The gloves thing was in the torrecampo. He also did not make weight at the torecampo fight so he was forced to wear 40 0z gloves. However at the singsurat fight, if you watched most of his fights prior to this, the brawler-never care if i get hit style before he met roach, it was not just there. If you are fighting in a foreign country then the odds of losing via being robbed is very high. What do you have to do then to avoid that? KO the home town boy. Pac's nature is always to ko his opponents no matter what especially at foreign lands and in thailand? Not that i am hating thailand but they made many sins against pinoy pugulist especially on what hapened in the sea games. Our version of your pan-american games. Don't just always believe on what the records say without knowing what really happened, just like jmm's loss to cj. Do you really think jmm lost to that iece of ****? Of course you might say "a loss is a loss." I stand by my conviction that those 2 fights are really flukes. Torrecampo is just bigger than pac then, he is just physically more developed than the then 15/16yrs old.. You don't even know if that was a lowblow or something...
I'm not going to on about this tonight. He got KTFO'd. There is nothing about that fact that can be explained away as a fluke. Two other fighters simply got the best of him.
maybe my mistake. i still remember the commentators saying pac was forced to wear heavier glove while watching the singsurat fight then. could be they are talking about the torrecampo fight then? i agree on the thailand account. it was pure joy back then when pac ko'ed sasakul when we all know that if the fight did go to decision, more probably, sasakul takes it.
Not being able to make weight and fight effectively is not a fluke, I can't emphasize this point enough. Its simply bad management of one's body, or bad management of one's fighter as a management team. In boxing there are rules. Making weight is one of them. Pac had a hard time making weight and paid the price. Wasn't the first, won't be the last. Can someone point out the fluke in this for me?
John's win against jmm is a fluke. Pac's win against hussein is a fluke. It's really not on their records but as a boxing fan, you know what is genuinely real than what's scribbled on those l's and w's.
And he had a chance to not follow through with the fight, correct? But he did, and lost, simple as. Its his responsibility. The loss is as meaningful as any other loss. Now does that mean that those two guys will go down as better fighters? Of course not. But they hold wins over him, legitimate wins. Same way Pac holds legitimate wins over Barrera, Morales... etc.
yep, it's more of the management then. they probably knew that pac is having a hard time maintaing 112 and yet they were forced to defend at this weight while going to thailand. but i would not blame his managaers because pac was still (even being a champ) fighting for peanuts back then and a championship fight in thailand is relatively a big money for him back then. he could just abandon his belt and move-up in weight to avoid the problem but championship belts are big bargaining chips for huge payout especially in asia.
Flukes or not flukes, if they face each other then, again, in similar weights at the same weight division ac would have won imo.. But is has to be clear the pac got ko'ed with body shots, there are no chins in tummies from what i know.
Of course he would be favored to win. But boxing is littered with guys who got wins off of big name guys by being opportunists, and props to them. Just as Rahman (and those guys weren't as good as him relatively) got KTFO'd in his return bout with LL, they probably would have too. I can guarantee you those guys have tremendous self esteem having picked up that win. Its a flash of brilliance in their lives. Thats why it rubs me the wrong way when I hear this word being tossed around. They picked up the win given the conditions that were presented.
I credit them too though, i feel for them. You know how tough it is to become a boxer esecially here in my "poor-ass" country. If you failed to have good management you get ulled back to poverty after all the hardwork...unfortunately for torrecampo he has a run in with the law lately, for killing some guy. Man it's feels bad. The worst scenario can dying in the ring even after achieving stardom like what happened to chico and the bionic brit..
