Arum clarifies Pacquiao's low purse number

Ok so to continue if he were to get 40- 50 mil from Mayweather fight how much you think he would get from PPV since he gets so much money upfront?

 

Hard to tell since we don't know how much revenue this fight will generate. My very rough estimate is that at $40 million guarantee, the PPV buys probably will have to be at around 2 million assuming 50/50 split between Floyd and TR and the fight nets around $110 million.

 

Why would Arum need to Clarify anything....FMJ was Lying about his numbers, right?

I've been over this before. The figures written a Nevada contract are not necessarily the real number for big PPV guys. They get most of their money off PPV generally. So if Manny's "official" purse is $8 million fine. But he is guaranteed in his contract with Top Rank (which is not something the commission would have or release if if did) something like $20 million or whatever. The money is the money. One of the reasons for the disaprity is because Manny is not a US citizen and is often paid a large amount of his money through his Filipino promotional company and deals in the Philippines for things like the television revenue there. So while it looks like a big difference it is not in reality. So folks can keep on drinking the kool aid. But they dont get how the business actually works when it comes to fighters from overseas. I once covered a world title fight in Vegas with a champion from South Africa in say about 2002. His Nevada contract for a world title fight said his official purse was like $1,000. But he was making more like $50,000 because of the TV money from South Africa. You can do anything with numbers. What is written on the Nevada paper for big time fights isn't worth the paper it is written on.

Are you saying it would have to generate 2 million ppv buys to justify a $40 million guarantee or that you think he'll make an extra $2 million on a 50/50? Or neither?

 

Add to that Marquez making 10 million for this fight. That's 40 million for the fighters. Floyd claims he made 40 million for Ortiz, but it was probably 35. How much did Ortiz make, he had a 2 million gauranteed purse, did he get any of the PPV? Doubt that, when Floyd didn't want to give any to Manny. So that's 37-42 million for the fighters there. Not much difference
