Khan is with AL but AL is a business man. He's going to do what makes sense and isolating himself and his clients by severing ties with GBP isn't smart business. Plus......AL and Gomez have a very good relationship from what I've heard.....so some of theses fights are very realistic.

 

No different than Floyd groupies hanging on to every word Floyd speaks. At least this situation has the 2 main sources corroborating each other's stories. Bob and Oscar are the two bosses of the two biggest promotional companies within the sport...it's positive that these two are communicating and attempting to work together for the betterment of boxing.

 

Wasn't all the "*******s" calling for Floyd to pick Amir but instead Floyd went with Marcos whom most felt was an easier fight? I'm glad Floyd did end up choosing Marcos becuase it was a great fight and a very close one at that, but most felt Amir would be the stiffer test for Mayweather. PAC vs Khan is a very good fight and hopefully it can happen if TR and GBP end up working out their differences like it seems to be.

 

Broner was a self proclaimed clone of Floyd that only a few really believed. His last performance and his loss to Miadana kind of took the Adrien Broner train off the rails. I'd love to see Manny and Adrien square off but Amir is a better fighter....has a history with PAC and would be a bigger PPV event. Broner has to work his way back up in order to get back into the Race to fight PAC.

Plus PAC isn't looking to prove that he can beat Floyd. A lot of people already believe Manny is the only one who can hand Floyd his first loss and Floyd's reluctance to disprove that has only added fuel to the flames.... Not that it matters....Floyd isn't worried about proving that he can beat PAC inside the ring so the fight everyone wants to see is never going to happen unless Floyd has a change of heart.

recently obtained a copy of a document purported to be the resume of ex-Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer. While his prowess as a chief executive is acknowledged, we at OtG are not interested in his services at this time. It won't be much of a blow to his ego, his skills are still fairly marketable at this point.

His current marketability may be due in part to Golden Boy Promotions founder, Oscar de la Hoya. Apparently the Golden Boy is in no rush to determine whether or not the company will take legal action against Schaefer for breach of fiduciary duty.

Following a stint in rehab for substance abuse, de la Hoya arrived at the office with a different vision for the company's direction than his CEO. It's said to have a little less to do with philosophy than is being portrayed.. The smart money says this is about loyalty.

In the aftermath of Schaefer's June 2 resignation, the boxing world is left with some big questions. The answers are sure to impact boxing programming for years to come.

What does Schaefer's future hold?

His press release wasn't very telling. He basically patted himself on the back for a job well done, and said he's still going to be reaping financial benefits from GBP as a shareholder. Still speculation abounds that he may continue promoting boxing. Floyd Mayweather and CEO of his Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe both went on record with their desire to work with Schaefer in the future. What is unclear is whether or not Schaefer can respond to such "feelers."

Is Schaefer free to compete with GBP, or will he be prevented from doing so by a no-compete clause?

"Obviously that's up to the lawyers to deal with," de la Hoya told SecondsOut. "In the meantime we're going to move forward with our business and continue doing what we do best."

It was a yes or no question, right?

Certainly, de la Hoya knows whether or not GBP's contract with Schaefer includes a no-compete clause. Schaefer surely knows the answer as well.

They aren't keeping each other in the dark. It's the boxing media with the stupid looks on their faces.

It doesn't look like de la Hoya's lawyers are looking at the "no-compete" side of things. They are looking at the "enforceable contract" side of things.

A statement from GBP lawyer Bert Fields reads, "Golden Boy has a written contract with Richard Schaefer that ends March, 2018. The company intends to enforce that contract."

Upon de la Hoya's return there must have been some serious hardball going on behind the scenes. They say there was the de la Hoya faction and the Schaefer faction operating for a short period separately at the office, with little crossover.

Picture a de la Hoya who has never put in a full week at the office in his life, recently removed from his prime of morally bankrupt deviant behavior, deciding it's time to drop the hammer on Wilshire Blvd. More than a decade after he founded the company, de la Hoya decided he wants GBP run his way.

It turns out de la Hoya had the crazy idea to actually sign fighters the company promotes to, get this - contracts!

Additionally, he made it known he intends to work with the other promotional companies to present cards. Included in "other promotional companies" is Top Rank, Schaefer's sworn enemy.

Which of these demands was the straw that broke the camel's back, contracts or cooperation?

Either way, Schaefer probably felt like a worm being crushed by a ton of bricks.

Boxing promotions rarely give media, financial and championship pushes to fighters who are under no obligation to the company. Word on the street is Schaefer may have turned a practice normally seen as a rare exception, into a business model. At least as far as a certain group of fighters go. This business strategy may have played to the benefit of a shadowy boxing adviser/manager/mystery man. One can't help but think this man is trying to make the world believe he's this era's Frankie Carbo.

Carbo, was of course the notorious Lucchese crime family gangster with a death grip on the boxing world. From the early 1940s until US Attorney General, Bobby Kennedy successfully prosecuted him in 1961, Carbo was known as, "The Czar of Boxing."

Long gone are the days of a fedora-wearing gangster sitting ringside, cigar in mouth with a watchful eye over his kingdom. Today it's a Harvard-graduate who enjoys wielding his power from a dimly lit distance. Al Haymon isn't so lofty though that he would ignore fight night altogether.

No, he sends heralds to greet the common boxing folks, and remind fighters to thank him in their post-fight interviews. Haymon's best friend, Sam Watson and his twin sons who many fans have mistaken for Winky Wright over the years, go before him as evidence of his omnipresence.

Haymon's name was the first to come to mind for most when news of Schaefer hitting the door became public. Would they soon be joining forces to create a new promotional entity?

There's a better chance of a lighted billboard going up in the middle of Times Square with the announcement, before Haymon would lower one of his closely held cards.

When Schaefer resigned as CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, boxing insiders and professionals began to opine about the former Swiss banker's future. He went from unknown in the sport to one of its most powerful deal-makers, but what's next?

Entertainer-turned-promoter, 50 Cent thinks boxing still has a future for Schaefer.

"He’s not leaving the sport of boxing now," 50 Cent told Ring. "I’ve watched Richard Schaefer and what he’s done for Golden Boy and building them to what they are, so I know what his capabilities are."

He went on to express interest in hiring Schaefer if he is indeed available.

"I’d do that immediately. I don’t think anyone is better than him."

Legality permitting, Schaefer has options.

Could Haymon be waiting in the wings? Are Mayweather and Ellerbe serious about working with Schaefer? Can Schaefer really be expected to play co-pilot to Ellerbe? Would Mayweather demote his former spit-bucket carrier from his CEO position for Schaefer? What of 50 Cent, and his desire to have the promoter he called the best in the business on his team?

Will Schaefer be sitting down for a talk with, or submitting a resume to any of these men some time soon?

ONTHEGRIND BOXiNG had the opportunity to review Schaefer's supposed resume. It was said to be authentic, but we are not convinced.

At first look everything appeared to be in order. We were able to verify many of the accomplishments and milestones in his career. Unfortunately as we continued with verification, it became apparent it was probably created by one of Schaefer's critics. We have trouble believing he would include Swiss cheese and chocolate as areas of expertise.

 

The Cold War is over but he's stalling on Cotto vs Canelo. I think they'll do small to medium fights but the big fights are going to be a problem.

 

Apparently everyone is a good styles match up for Pacquiao.
