I was under the impression though that stadiums like this could be completely constructed within 9 months? Isn't that why Bob was so adamant about Floyd taking the fight in November instead of May 2012??
Bob was planning a makeshift outdoor stadium. This project has nothing to do with him, its a whole new venue altogether, 375mil cost, thats more than Arum's networth.
If BOb cares so much about how many people can be held inside a venue, he should've tried to make the match at COwboy's stadium. I'm not saying that FLoyd would've agreed to fight outside of Vegas, but the idea of building a 20,000 person stadium when there's a few venues in Vegas that can hold close to that amount (including the MGM,) makes zero sense to me.
He did try to make it there in 2009, and was told off by Schaefer and Mayweather. Then he tried to make it the new home for all of Pacquiao's fights but had to come crawling back to Vegas thanks to the paltry gates, just like he did more recently with Macau (remember "Pacquiao will never fight in the US again" )
exactly...people in vegas, or that visit vegas wanna go to fights where they're staying (hotel), or a place that's not a pain in the ass to get to...we all know in vegas a few blocks can be hell, so to build something like that to only house events, sounds pretty weird.....whenever I've gone to the unlv arena, it's a ****en pain to get there, and to get out....this will kind of have the same problem..... imo pretty stupid idea if you ask me.....but what do I know
the funny thing about that is....and while true....bob also made a comment about the fight having to be at MGM or the Venetian because of the high rollers manny brings in....so while bob did mention cowboy stadium to gb he also later said the fight should be at MGM or Venetian after saying "why does it have to be at the MGM"
So are you suggesting that yesterday he was lying and today he was telling the truth? These are some stern accusations for the honorable Bob Arum and I'm not sure I believe them. :think
Also, isn't AEG a major stockholder in Golden Boy? Arum going to have to do alot of arse kissing to get his events put in a stadium owned by 1) a major investor in his biggest promotional company's rival (Golden Boy) and 2) the hotel chain he just publically pizzed on (MGM).
Key part of the article: Vegas and the NBA have been making overtures to each other for years. Remember they had the NBA All Game there a couple of years ago.
