Duddy is much better than you guys are giving him credit for. Fair enough he defends with his face most of the time, but he has an iron jaw and can really box when he wants to.

Agreed Tommy, most of these guys have seen the worst of Duddy in the Schmit fight and are basing their opinions on that. The fight before that Duddy looked good against Howard Eastman, its the first time he actually tried to outbox an opponent instead of getting into a brawl.

I admit he no world beater and probably doesn'y deserve a shot at Pavlik but the middleweight division is devoid of top notch talent after Pavlik,Abraham, Williams, winky and Sturm.Duddy would be competitive with any of the rest and don't tell he wouldn't put up a better fight than Lockett or Marquez.

The part I put in bold explains why I said I would try to get him the IBO title at 154 if he was my fighter. It's a good prop, and he could have a very colorful career defending it at MSG and in Ireland. Part of a promoter's job is to recoginize what you are working with, and then build the best possible career for that fighter.

I agree with him fighting at 154,he can be very competitive there and move up to 160 when Pavlik and AA are at SM

Duddy may not be one of the top light middle/middle fighters but he is certainly not a bum. Duddy has a good amateur background and remains undefeated having scalped decent contenders Howard Eastman and Yori Boy Campas. Duddy also has a concrete chin, an exciting style and a huge following. For my money he puts it up to Y Foreman, could beat Chavez Junior and would give Pavlik a better challenge than many expect (although i don't believe he is ready to fight Pav yet)

Foreman/Duddy? Never thought of that one; good clash of styles.

No one thinks Duddy is anything special but he's a decent Middleweight fighter and would probably be a strong contender down at Light-Middleweight.

However all I ever see on forums is Duddy is overhyped, he's a bum. If you look at those forums very few people are hyping Duddy on them if any, infact this Duddy 'hype' that he seems to be adorned with is a myth. There are far more people that call him a bum than even call him a reasonable contender.

I'm not exactly sure why people seem to hate Duddy so much or why it has been fabricated that there's loads of hype with Duddy.
To be fair Duddy was a little hyped in 2005 after knocking out Leonard Pierre in 1 round but that ended in 2006 after the Campas performance........so why 3 years on are people still complaining about him being hyped ?

Smitchet. End of. I look at that fight and think Duddy showed a hell of a lot. He realized he had to stop what he was doing and box his way to a victory. He did and did. It only takes a 'near' loss hear to make you a bum. :-(

I don't see this fight happening but it would make sense if it did.If it did it would probably be a decent fight. I see some similarities between the two fighters as well but I think both get a bit of a bad rap.

Chavez could use a step up in competition but I don't see a huge problem with his current career path. He's 22 and had a couple of amatuer bouts. Draw the line where you like but the first 15 fights or so of his career would equal a decent amatuer career. Taking that into account he wouldn't be that far off an average 20 fight professional. He has a fan base that seems fine with buying his fights. He isn't fighting for titles or getting in the way of meaningful bouts, its almost as if he operates in his own boxing universe. Maybe not Forrest, Martinez, or Angulo but Chavez could use a step up but so far he's fine.

Duddy isn't as bad as some make him out to be. He'll never be a world champ but he's alright and is entertaining as well. I see him and Pavlik happening at MSG in the near future and it makes sense but after Jennings and Rubio as his first two defenses Pavlik needs to face one of the other top guys at middleweight. Duddy needs to be his reward for facing one of his top 2-3 challengers instead of his alternative.
