This is a wicked point. I read the Arum interview where he stated that Cotto couldn't fight Cintron because Arum also represents Cintrons mandatory Joshua Clottey. Then he puts Margo (also an Arum fighter) in with Cintron to setup a Cotto-Margo fight? Usually I think Arum is a pretty strait shooter, but this is politicking, pure and simple. So Arum has basically decided FOR Cotto that he will never fight Mayweather because he will have two mandatories if he has two belts and this will drag out into '09 when Floyd may very well be retired. The only way someone can claim that Arum is not ducking Mayweather for Cotto (probably without his knowledge) is if he offers to have Cotto fight Mayweather after beating Margo despite it costing him his two belts. Unless that happens, it is clear that Arum wants no part of Mayweather and would prefer to make it seem like PBF ducked Cotto so that after PBF retires Cotto can claim he was always the worlds best Welterweight.
Exactly. Cotto needs to speak out and call his own shots on what he wants to do. No more hiding behind management.
I read that interview too - so I was shocked to see Margarito/Cintron 2 being made. Regardless to what Arum says - all he wants is Cotto/Margarito - cause it's all in house. After that fight - he'll start chasing Mayweather.
I hope Cotto calls out somebody (Mayweather) after/if he beats Gomez, but he wont since he seems content on letting Arum pick his fights. **** Bob Arum...
You and I both know - they'll take the money over the belts. There's nothing better than the Top Dawg Spot. Plus - they may make an exception and let them fight for the belt.
Arum has already put Cotto in against the mando urkal. I dont see why he'd not put him inagainst Clottey and whoever that other WBA mando guy is.
Good stuff. It's both of their faults this fight isn't happening and it's not all PBF's fault like the haters would like you to believe.
I would hope, for the good of the sport, that this happens but I really do think Arum doesn't want Cotto to fight Mayweather. I have stated before that a PBF-Cotto fight comes down to who gets hit more easily...and that is obviously Cotto. Cotto barely got by a gunshy Mosely and PBF would beat Cotto pretty bad...probably by late TKO. And Arum knows it.
Arum does know it and that's why he wouldn't let Cotto near PBF at 140 as well despite Cotto being at the PBF-Gatti fight and him being talked about as a possible opponent.
I agree that if Cotto doesn't ever go on the record calling out Mayweather, insisting and doing his best to make the fight (e.g. like Mikkel did with Joe), the blame will mostly lie with him, since he is the challenger.
