Damn HBO bosses are smacking each other around over this one... They'll be losing a lot of money, the two biggest fights of the year on Showtime...

We're already getting to see a lot of fights we want to see. Don't think that Sho stepping its boxing coverage up has nothing to do with HBO stepping up their game this year. Look at the 2011 calendar; it's stacked.

Exactly! Which is why it's doubtful to occur again.

Good post. Lets hope they use this rivalry to stop putting crap cards on in place of better bouts.

Yea somewhere in there... Either way they'll be losing a lot of money... There hasn't been a guy who generates this kind of money who fights 2x a year since Tyson... by the time Oscar became the huge box office star he wasn't active... This is giving Showtime a lot of extra money to grow and expand.. hopefully they'll do something with it..

You gotta think a Pac or Floyd fight at this time does as much as the rest of their full year schedule combined... not a good look for HBO

If Showtime/CBS is really serious in taking the lead in showing premium fights, Top Rank has the horses to do it.

If they at least match HBO's offer, TR should give it to them.....to promote better quality of fights from both sides.

They only have one real cash cow right now. Pavlik is on his way out, as is JML. Donaire and Gamboa are not big draws (Arum said this himself).

JML just lost and looked bad doing so, and Rios is still on the rise. Pac is really the only major draw they have (and it looks like JCC is sticking with HBO for now).

Cotto is also on the decline, as is Margo.

  10. i can see it beeing a problem if it was a mutli-fight deal, but arums only doing fight by fight deals with showtime. He could still work something out with hbo. **** arum and his bull ****.

That's just it. SHO can't match HBO's budget. HBO just shoots themselves in the foot inflating certain purses.

you still have to agree that TR has more known fighters/bigger draws at this time compared to other promotional organization. They also have a lot of young prospects.
