You need to define 'ring generalship' then. IMO, it's hard for your 'ring generalship' to be 'one of the best in boxing' when you spent chunks of your most significant career fights (Trout, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Margarito, Mosley, Clottey) hurt, retreating, or running out of gas. Especially when you started those fights swarming and attacking. YMMV. What's the last fight where you thought, 'Wow, Cotto is really imposing his will on (insert opponent) in there'?
exactly!!! here's the thing...i'm a boxing fan...and if you're a boxing fan, how could u not be a fan of pac, floyd, cotto...or anyone for that matter. what i want to see is competitive match ups...not onesided beat downs. floyd/canelo...one sided...floyd/guerrero...even though i thought it was going to be competitive...that was one sided.....floyd/cotto...competitive, period. why not see how things play out with different captains guiding the ships??? who's going to give floyd a tougher fight than cotto at this point? who's going to sell more tickets than cotto? maybe pac...but i don't even want to see that. it won't be competitive.
the only fights i saw cotto retreating in were the pacquiao and margarito fights. he does tend to fade...but in all the other fights u mentioned, he fought til the end. don't believe everything you hear....especially on hbo.
I have no interest in a rematch until Cotto beats someone of note. If he does then I might support it. With that said he gets beat worse in the rematch. He's sacrificing his defense in favor of offense with Roach and that won't do him any favors against PBF
that's an obvious...he needs to get a quality win to be in the conversation. i have to question who his advisors are that he went from fighting floyd to fighting trout. what made him think he could beat trout? smh. whatever the case...his victory over rodriguez was much more impressive than trouts victory over him. i think a win over canelo or martinez puts cotto back in the race for one of floyd's last fights.
Ring Generalship is the individual who dictates or controls the tempo of the fight. The one who controls ring activity in general and with those actions forces or makes the other guy move or fight the way that he wants. For example, taking away one punch with an action or applying smart pressure to control battle rythm or another good example when you effectively cut off the ring and corner ther other guy into the ropes or corner where he can better control the action and be the effective agressor. That defines "Ring Generalship", and Miguel is a master at doing so. He's ability to cut the ring is second to none, he applies pressure in a controlled/smart way. He does not carries away like some crazy guy, he boxes and counter punches and moves with you pressing the fight, cutting off the ring effectivly to control the attack.
Like anyone with 1/2 a brain or knows "**** about boxing" is brainwashed by this smoke n mirrors performance by Cotto Just because he beat the **** out of that stiff, doesn't fool me into believing he is any better than he was 2 years ago :deal
If he fights a live body, he isn't fighting the same way he did last Saturday night. He fought like that at 140lbs, against a few lower tier guys at 147, and then against that guy Saturday night who offered NO resistance :deal
To be honest I think Cotto took Trout lightly it was Trout's first step up fight. I think Cotto thought he could just show up and that would be enough to beat Trout because Trout was just happy to be there. If they have a rematch I would probably pick Cotto to beat him. IMO I think Cotto should be trying to get a rematch with Trout if he can't get Martinez or Canelo in the ring.
you need your eyes or your memory checked. Shane mosley is the man that started Cotto retreating:deal Before Shane he never took a step back.
