Last thread. How viable is it that Arum is milking cash out of Pac while he can. Fight Clottey on the 13th instead of Floyd. Why? Clottey is a top rank fighter, and to get another payday for him and Pac. If he fought Floyd and lost then he loses hype and money for a future fight. Does anyone think this theory is not just a possibility, but a likelihood.
If he's trying to milk him he would have convinced him to take the Mayweather fight and all the bull**** tests with it, in the end the money will still be there and he will have a lot of it, right? If he's trying to milk him he would keep him to fight a certain suspended tomato can by the name of Concreto who's always willing to cheat fighting guys three times smaller than him and still lose with a group of idiots praising him for pride and guts. So far Arum has brought the best fights in boxing. If he's trying to milk why would he risk it and make the DLH fight?, wasn't Manny a huge underdog going in that fight?, even Arum looked worried from the day they announced that fight to the very end. Then he sent Pac to fight Hatton who is also associated with Golden Boy, Marquez was also a fight he made then comes Cotto who's in their stable and recently tried his best to make a fight with Mayweather. All these fights were too risky to say he's milking him especially when we know his issues with Golden Boy.
No, Clottey now and then Floyd in the fall is better than Floyd now (Assuming a loss) then Clottey next. It's not like he's handpicking Bums like Mickey via Rocky III to try keeping Rocky to keep his title. It's a tough fight, but I think he think it is somewhat marketable and that Pac would win. Paulie was thrown out as a name. Obviously not a real threat, but maybe a marketable name. Just spit balling. I'm not saying Pac has fought bums. I think he has fought guys at the right time, coincidentally. But his resume at WW is better than Floyd. However, I think Clottey is a serious threat. The best fight out there at WW. But having him fight Clottey now rather than Floyd now would help him spring a bit more cash while he can. Why else aren't they budging on the 24-14 day window offer? Honestly, Roach said he was okay with anything more than 5 days. Pac said no to anything within 3 days. So what's the real problem? Arum hasn't been that honest. Maybe that is his thought process.
Arum has been HEDGING HIS BETS for years and playing The Art of War, Mr. Machiavelli for all time. Bob Arum, the prototypical boxing gangster. It's no theory, it's fact. He doesn't just put Top Rank fighters against Top Rank fighters for the financial gains of one promotion. Bob Arum is a master chess player who is ALWAYS running the marathon. Never a single race. Ultimately, he's hoping to transfer the luster and shine of his stars onto the fighters in his stable who are lesser known, outwardly hoping for the upset. That is the case here with Pacquiao/Clottey, as it was the case with Cotto/Margarito, and Cotto/Clottey. I said this BEFORE Cotto/Margarito, BTFW, and everything I said about Margarito's market value came true before his hand wrapping debacle, and then some. Try to imagine how much more Clottey would be worth if he somehow beat Pacquiao. Pacquiao is a goldmine regardless. This is 'Boost Clottey' take two, the sequel.
Clottey + Mayweather = Lots of Money Mayweather (Loss) + Clottey (_Insert other fighter) = Probably less money Makes sense to me. Make his last fight the Floyd fight so it doesn't hurt his hype.
I don't buy it. Pac has a few losses on his record, and that hasn't done jack for lowering his popularity. It's a stupid and silly gamble. Seriously, who would wager a 20m/30m fight over a 200m fight?
Wrong. Two world class athletes taking superior drug test when 45 million dollars is on the line is not bull****. If Manny were to test positive, the 45 million is no longer guaranteed. Perhaps this is Manny's problem.
You know, Pete, I wouldn't say for sure because I don't trust a damn thing from either camp. Hell, even if I believed the fighters and trainers, I'm not sure they even know everything that's going on between the promoters. You can't trust anything that's going on here. And I wouldn't be all that sure about Pac beating Clottey either.
Of course he does. He'd be promoting both sides 100% of the time if he could. I think he's probably going to try to get GBP to relinquish their stock in Manny to settle this defamation suit so he doesn't have to share his end with them for the big fight. In the meantime he still has a nice double ended payday coming up with Pacquiao/Clottey. It makes sense, although I don't think the defamation case has a snowball's chance in hell.
