Cotto was a free agent when Mayweather fought him. Just check Mayweather's options, all of them are promoted by Golden Boy. Is there anyone he's considering that isn't promoted by Golden Boy?
That's not a bad point. Let me rephrase it, it's fair for Arum to lower the purse amount offered if Chavez Jr doesn't want to sign an extension.
I think Arum would do what he can to ensure he doesn't lose money, which why he's doing what he's doing here. I don't know many business men who are ok with losing money in the long run. That's not true at all. It happens all the time. An estimate is not a definate. It's impossible to know ahead of time how much revenue a fight will generate. You can come up with estimates, but you can never know the true amount until everything is counted up.
This is what Chavez's manager claims FWIW: He also implies at the end of the article that under the no-extension deal, Chavez would be making around the same as Golovkin.
Chavez has been caught cheating in the past, he stunk it up for 11 rounds against Martinez, his stupid ass played weight games w/ Vera, and then still didn't look that great in the rematch.. . . . Why does this spoiled brat deserve a huge payday? (I can care less that he has a famous name.)
the way i see it is this arum offered chavez 2 different numbers for a GGG fight...one was if he didnt sign an extension...the other was if he did sign an extension....the latter was described as "far more" than the former arum then goes on to say "what if i lose money on the GGG fight?...and i have no futures with the kid...im taking on all the risk wheres the business sense in that" so basically yer willing to do the fight and pay him the high number....yet theres some kind of risk of you losing money on the GGG fight? well that doesnt sound like smart business either...bob dont like losing money period..... i wont blame arum for wanting to keep chavez...he knows mexican fans...he knows chavez is a draw...he knows hes losing his stranglehold......but this comes down to nothing more than arum trying to keep chavez the fight is a risk for him financially? yet hes willing to pay chavez top dollar for the fight if he resigns? what if chavez got sparked out? then where would bob go from there with chavez???
all of a sudden when a Mexican is involved, arum is a good guy...hahahahaahahahaha y'all believe anything that fits your agendas...
Arum is a bitchmade ****** and has ruined a good fight. Should of just had chavez run out his contract, possibly lose to golovkin and then be done with him
arum said he runs a risk of not getting futures on chavez if he doesnt resign arum said he risks losing money on the GGG fight.....yet he was willing to pay him top dollar for that fight if he resigned.....i dont see how that makes sense really....what if chavez got ****in worked by GGG? then what?
that's 1 of the offers he made. now there's little doubt arum is a shady character (he's a boxing promoter), but he ain't the man at fault here. it appears some on here will endorse anything as long as they perceive it as detrimental to arum, including shameless ducking.
funny **** I tell'ya.....arum is a snake when it comes down to Floyd and manny, but a complete saint when it comes down to jr...hahahaha
Part of the problem is the Canelo fight getting made a week before. Also, according to Chavez management with no extension Arum wanted to give Chavez similar guarantee as GGG. The thing is, he still would have stood to have gained on PPV/Gate upside. But apparently, just like Arum did not want to take a huge risk on the PPV/Gate, neither did Chavez. While its his career, and he can obviously fight or not for however much money - thats certainly his right - judging from the available info I really think he would have been better off taking the fight. Either a lot of money and extension (and extension with TR is less risky for JR than for some others, JR is a draw so even if Arum is a cad hes not going to stop making fights for a cashcow) , or less guaranteed money with upsides and freedom. I do think Arum is reasonable to not want to risk losing money, then losing the fighter. JR is not entirely unreasonable for balking at same guarantee as GGG , even with his freedom - but given the hype and marketability of this fight I do think he would have still made big money on it and would have been better off taking a high profile PPV that sitting or fighting another Vera.
Arum is full of ****. Everyone knows this fight will probably do a mil+ PPVs. If Arum were really so concerned about losing money on this deal [which he isn't] then Chavez' purse could have been scaled according to how well the PPV sells. Isn't this how Mayweather makes his money?
